National Signing Day 2016 Thread

so about the Hudson situation...if proven to be true, could he get out of his LOI if he so desired?

I was kind of curious on NSD when his "announcement" went down like it did... he had tweeted out the orange question mark and said his mind was made up a few days before.

Don't know where I read it but heard that Texas coaches were caught off guard, they were told he was in.

what a horrible thing to do to him, if true
Until I hear something from the Hudson's, I'm taking this story with a grain of salt.

Art Briles is a snake in the grass
I often think Briles is from Asgard. Some half-brother of Loki, but on the other side.

If Briles got run out of BigXII where would he likely land? What little sec school could he go to and wreck havoc? No, don't say that one. One that will give them problems.

Darn, this even looks like one of Bailor's unis ....

.... It is his how he makes his living and some little weasley copies word for word and paste some of it.
I was thinking just the other day about Higs' unique relationship with our coaches.  And, in particular, that relationship vis-a-via the other pay services.

As is obvious, Higs has unique access to the information from UT coaches.  Access that, as is clear to those of us who follow UT recruiting, no other pay service has.  He gets information from the coaches on recruits, good and bad -- on their visits, whether they will visit, when they will visit, on their scholastic status (possibly at times even including grades and test scores), on their health, on their familial relationships, on their relationships with their HS coaches, trainers, teachers, counselors and even on the "handlers" if he has one.

It's quite a remarkable achievement for a guy who does not live in Austin or even in Texas.  Credit to him for maintaining that relationship with Coach Strong over all the years, different schools and different states.

Some of the information provided to him raises interesting issues, especially the health and academic info, but the part I have been wondering about lately is whether the other pay services have a legitimate gripe about Higs' exclusivity with regard to information from the coaches.

The other pay services have much of the same access to information the always have had.  Namely the recruits themselves.  They also can see and talk to the families, the friends, their teammates, their coaches & teachers, the coaches of competing schools and scouts and on and on.

However, they are missing that one huge part of this story, the coaches' opinions and insight.  As well as info from "other personnel" inside the Department itself.  They used to have it.  Now they dont.  And everyone who follows this stuff knows it.  The Texas AD and coaching turnover brought an end to all of that.  For all but one.  For better or worse, Higs became the unofficial mouthpiece for our coaching staff.  Clearly its a symbiotic relationship.  Higs gets their point of view out there when they want it out there and, in return, he gets exclusive access to inside information.

So, here is the question I have been wondering about -- might those other pay services have an anti-competitive claim against him because of this exclusive access?  There is no question that the information leaked to him is unique.  The only way to know what Strong and his assistants are thinking about recruits is if they tell you.  Clearly, they share this with Higs.  Do they only share with him?  Seems that way.  If so, why?  The next question being -- do any of them (coaches/staff) receive any type of compensation or other advantage in return?    The question then becomes -- does Higs/Horns Digest/Scout have an unfair competitive advantage to their economic detriment?  Have they lost business to Higs/HD/Scout because of this unfair advantage?  Is it actionable?

I think it is an interesting question.  I have to admit it has been over two decades since I took my only Antitrust Law class. Take my word for it, it can be an extremely complex area of the law.  Nonetheless, it would not be very surprising to see one of these other services have someone look into it.  We have already seen some evidence that they were motivated enough last season to attempt to aid in a sort of coup to oust Strong.  That was dirty tricks IMO.  At the same time, I think we also have to acknowledge that their motivations were economic, not personal -- they lost their access.  They wanted it back.  Their livelihoods may depend on it.  How was that going to happen?  New coaching staff.  But that coup effort failed.  At least for now.  If the team only wins 5 or 6 games again in 2016, the effort will be back -- we have seen talk of it already on this board, and elsewhere.

Until then, might those same economic concerns force them to take a closer look at Higs/HD and his exclusive access to what is unquestionably unique information?  The combined deep pockets of Scout Media, NAMG, and the Pilot Group/Bob Pittman might make for an alluring target.

It would seem to me that reporters are free to develop whatever contacts he or she can. And that contact is not required to talk to anyone else by law. I think I am right on that.

And if he never gives up his sources how would they have any action?

Shotime: Don't fret about it. Follow the suggestion of Epictetus and watch a good movie. The excitement of

NSD has concluded. We know who is coming to UT to play football; the results were great and the future

looks promising. It's time to follow our basketball teams and soon baseball.

Chill out girl and relax, we had a great recruiting class...it's all good...thanks for your contributions on the

2016 recruiting thread.

Hook 'em Horns!
Ohh I know that I'm as peachy as peach cobbler my dear

Stephenville was the hometown. I can understand why you'd have ill feelings for them.
Stephvenville seems to have always fielded a good team, i just couldnt stand Briles. He came off as a dirt bag back then. Blake would you have any idea how Stephenville has done the last 5 years? Quite curious.
