National Signing Day 2016 Thread

So guess whaat?

We had the LOIs in for Brandon Jones and Jordan Elliott, but our coaches sat on the news so the players could each have their moments.

Jones signed and faxed his in at just after 7 a.m. then announced at 8:30 a.m.

Elliott sent his in around 10 a.m. but did not announce until 1 p.m. or so.

I say let Bailor and ags use all the negative recruiting they can muster...consider it seasoning salt of the oh so yummy ag/bear tears.

re: Irv Smith --

Irvin Smith Sr. had some kind of ties to both Bama and aggy

We could never win him over (he lives in Ariz.)

Irv, Jr canceled our in-home while our coaches were already on the road in the state of LA

We were none too happy about that

So if you ever see the dad, feel free to kick him in the nads for me

Too bad Briles didnt jump to steal the show from Sam on the rape arrest and eventual conviction?

Kyle Porter told TCU coaches he was coming there

But ~12 hours later, Porter phoned Strong and changed it to Texas

247 says WR Dee Anderson came close to flipping to Texas midseason

But he never felt comfortable with the direction of the offense under Norvell

By the time Gilbert was hired, it was too late.

Way to go, Chuck. Let the kids have their moment. Briles, feel free to take notes. I'm sure Hudson would've appreciated the same courtesy.

Remember all the noise about Delance considering Harbaugh/Michigan?

Nothing to it.

Delance had decided on Texas during the Fall and was working on guys like Shark, Brandon Jones and DJax at the UA Game.

When Delance went public with his committment, is when we got some momentum going

Nailed it

OL Austin Myers (same HS as Hemphill) never considered us because of Joe Wickline.

He didnt like him from the first time they spoke.

Committed to TCU instead

Wickine also almost cost us Okafor (he was considering TCU too)

And, of course, there was Shackelford.

Elliott had made a silent commitment to Texas following the Under the Lights camp (I think that was July)

He never made that public.  We dont know why

Can partially thank Patrick Vahe for Chris Daniels

He and the family ties, and the ou depth chart depth

Chris Brown was a silent commit from about mid-Jan

-----------------

LJH was a silent commit most of Jan.  He was part of the text group working on other recruits

-------------------

Jeffrey McCulloch was a silent commitment for most of January

He was helping recruit Porter and Elliott.

Also, word is that Shark told Summy he was not going to aggy while on his OV there in part because of the two 5-star QBs who had left.  Summy responded by going off on Texas.  Too bad we did not have a Persicope on then.

Here are some quotes from Shark --

"I feel like an elephant jumped off my chest.  It was very fun during the process.  But, as everyone says I'm so sure, when it got down to actually making that final decision it got really stressful."

"I think we will do it this year to be honest.  We are dogs. That hunger we have on this team I think that we will take over the Big 12 this year.  We will beat everybody and end up in the College Football Playoffs."

Eric Cuffee was a silent commit to us by the time of the UA Game

He was working on Brandon Jones, and kept working on him until the end

247 says Cuffee deserves alot of credit on Jones

----------------

We were never going to sign both Jones and Deontay Anderson.  They became buds throughout the process but  agreed not to go to the same school, even staying in touch about that.

Also, Hamm claims that Jones and Murray were close and he wasnt going to aggy after Murray left.

----------------

It sort of worked the same way with Cuffee and Parrish Cobb.  At some point, Cobb had an issue with his recruiter at ou, Jay Boulware, who reportedly lost his temper.  Cobb liked Texas but he and Cuffee (both from Waco) had agreed to go to different schools.  That's how he ended up at Baylor.

Obi Eboh was de-committed from us for a full day before he said so on Twitter.

Word is we did not contest it with him much
