AUSTIN – Texas debuted at No. 10 in this year’s Associated Press top 25, the program’s highest preseason ranking since 2010 (No. 5).

Texas started each of the last two seasons at No. 23, only to lose its season-opener to Maryland. The Longhorns won’t have to worry about the Terrapins torpedoing their ranking this year – UT opens on Aug. 31 at home against Louisiana Tech.

The Longhorns were just one of three Big 12 teams ranked, joining No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 21 Iowa State. TCU and Oklahoma State also received votes but fell outside the top 25.

The Sooners also topped Texas in the preseason Big 12 rankings, with the Cyclones coming in at No. 3 in the media’s vote.

Texas won’t have to wait long for its first real test – No. 6 LSU will travel to Austin on Sept. 7 for a primetime clash at Royal-Memorial Stadium.
