My updated wish list:

Saban - No words needed.

Fisher - The next Saban, IMO. His team is amazingly sound across the board. We would gain some years on his tenure over Saban's.

Harbaugh - He's relatively young, and he's a proven champion. That SB ring would sparkle in living rooms.

Briles - his offense would bring immediate excitement to every game. needs Narduzzi type on D.

Strong - Like Sumlin, I believe the race card would positively affect recruiting and leadership as coach. I don't believe that to be the only reason he would be good.

So you think all these reports that Patterson is interviewing all these candidates is a HUGE smokescreen?
Some of it, for sure. But Patterson has been talking to a number of candidates, no doubt.

And that, IMO, will likely prove to be not necessary. Nevertheless, like McPhaul has said, he won't be caught without an answer, or two. I expect him to have that lined up, yes. But that's how it would be no matter what the names in play are/were.

Every day I get more info that points to Saban. And each day it's something that shows progress towards a hire. I see consistency and a progression that makes sense to this point. So I say Saban.

To those of us not privileged to "inside" information, it's hard to know what to think at this point. I speak for myself, of course, but I have no idea which way this is headed.

My list shrunk.
1. Saban
LOL! You are relentless.

Well, I think the list is definitely getting shorter, as of today.

Since you know that I don't believe Saban is coming, I would say that leaves three candidates and I would almost bet that one is our next HC - and, remember, I said almost:

Briles

Harbaugh

Strong

(and I almost eliminated Briles, but I just have the nagging feeling he could be the January surprise)

If Texas hires Richt or Schiano, I will tweet a d**k pic every

15 minutes for the next 3 years in protest.

I get the same information on Saban and it is from my wife. Yes if you knew my wife you would go along with her wishes like I do. Yes she is beautiful and sweet. HOOK'EM

What did you hear today? Or can you not say?

Patterson met with a group of Texas lettermen before the Alamo Bowl on Monday who expressed support for Baylor coach Art Briles.

A group of billionaire donors appear ready to make their case for Florida State's Jimbo Fisher

Another billionaire Texas donor has let it be known he supports Jon Gruden as Mack Brown's replacement.

Malzahn has dropped completely off most lists. Did I miss the reasoning behind that? He could be a surprise now bc of the lack of publicity.

He's from Texas and it's been said that UT is his dream job. What happened to Malzahn??

Fisher or Briles...it won't be anybody below them in the pecking order, I would be elated w/ either or Saban.

And Doc, you may well prove to be right and I, wrong. I'm perfectly ok with a non-Saban hire as long as it's a home run hire. So I know I could end up being wrong. Ever since this thing began months ago, my mind goes back to '97-'98 when the insiders were convinced we were about to hire Gary Barnett, until we weren't there in the 11th hour and suddenly Mack Brown was the name, then the hire. Something like that could always happen again.

But, that said, I'm convinced by what I hear and right now and as has been, they're pointing to Saban. If what I heard today is true, then his decision is made and he's coming.

Let it be true, let it be true!!!!!

If it is true that he's coming, any idea when it would be announced?

I was told before that he has until Thursday night/Friday morning to give us his decision. If that holds true, I would expect an announcement maybe Friday night or Saturday. If it's plan 1B, it could go down pretty quickly after our answer is received from Saban.

I don't expect anything before the bowl game. That's a distraction to his players.

Man, I know who you talk to, so your argument is extremely compelling. Particularly since I would sell a grandchild to have Saban as the next coach. Well maybe. :)
