Seems Jason Suchomel from OB got an ENTIRELY different version of events .. . . .

Sometimes,. .. .before you make a complete fool of yourself flying off the handle and jumping to conclusions (perhaps your only exercise). . .it helps to get as Paul Harvey would say .. . the rest of the story .. . . .

OTOH, simple things for simple minds. . . .

Talked to someone today, and the leadership people at the Angelo Football Clinic are not at all happy with the article that was run on ESPN that basically railed on Charlie Strong. I mean, really not happy.

I spoke with someone who is friends with the founders of the clinic and they feel the article was a complete misrepresentation of what actually happened, they feel there was an agenda behind it and their pretty upset that the reporter was even there (and apparently didn't identify himself as media).

The San Angelo clinic has been going on for 41 years and is a huge deal in the state, and the people at the top are pretty upset that it was covered in a way that they feel was disingenuous.

"That's not what this (event) is about," is the way it was described to me.

As i have been saying all week, this entire situation should have been handled by the media team in Bellmont. Ged Wad Phillips on the phone to expand on whatever comment he game Haney, talk to some other coaches who were out there and find out what the situation is. If the people who put on the event truly feel Haney did not depict the event as it actually occurred, it would seemingly be very easy to get a direct quote from them and get it to OB, Inside texas, to McPhaul's FOB for inclusion in Crossfire, Bohls over at AAS, Mike Finger and a bunch of others.

I saw the story Haney wrote when Strong was hired when to offered a supposed quote from an unnamed individual who he claimed was a Big 12 assistant coach where he said the guy laughed and stated he couldn't believe Texas hired Coach Strong. If Haney truly is pursuing a bias against the UT program and using questionable unnamed sources for his info, there are a number of ways of calling out ESPN and in spite of the LHN relationship, ESPN has an obligation to ensure the credibility and integrity of its writers.

Haney and Clay Travis are the two worst of the writers with biases against the University of Texas. Steve Patterson needs to get the media team in Bellmont off their asses and get them to start doing their job. Charlie Strong has enough problems without having to police the journalistic integrity of media outlets covering UT athletics. This whole mess is just another sign of how impotent the staff in Bellmont is.

REally?

And what would they have done?   How would they have "handled" a rouge ESPN reporter with an agenda publishing an article full of lies?

In fact anything that Belmont would have done would have been perceived as nothing more than spin .. . .

Instead.. . .didn't take long for the truth to come out. . . .

When you are the lead dog.  .. you don't over react, lose your mind and go full retard every time some pack dog yaps. . . .

OTOH, I am reminded of your quote:   "You must think I am some kind of F@cking Moron". . . .. .

Well, since 247 and now OB have shot the story down, perhaps that's exactly what happened.

I would love to think that is what happened. For years the program has been sh!t on in the media without Bellmont making sure enough information was.out there to let people make up their own minds. The crap story about how Texas and the duplicity/dishonestly of its leaders were what caused four teams to leave the Big 12 was allowed to fester far too long. Bowen Loftin's book is about to be released and we already know that will bash Texas mercilessly. I would love to believe someone in the media group inside Bellmont for once got it right. I would also love to think this isn't an isolated case. I'm not confident it isn't an isolated case, but hope springs eternal.

Bowtie Loftin wrote a book?  This is gonna be good.

At the very least, DeLoss should collaborate with Bellmont's publicity staff to get a counterpoint published in Texas Monthly.  Maybe solicit quotes from Dan Bebee, too, while they're at it.  I resent how Texas has been depicted nationally over the 4 defections, particularly aggie.  It's disingenuous at best and utter bullshit at worst.

If Bowtie is such an inspiring, visionary, and strategic leader - why the hell did aggie put him out to pasture? Curious

good points all. i can't imagine even many aggys would buy his book, much less normal people.

I'm sure he'll sell at least one to a supposed Horn. . . .

But I'm not sure I can imagine a less relevant opinion. . . basically the aggies even laughed at him .. . .

I would love for Deloss to write a book about his time as AD. I don't think he will, but I would love it if he set the record straight about why Tom Osborne was so pissed at Texas from the first days of the Big 12. I would love to hear his story about events around the time aggy was being considered a repeat violator of NCAA rules in the mid 90s, about he realignment stories, about the negotiations that resulted in the LHN agreement and the rest of the events of the last 30 years in college sports.

Loftin's book was written to tell the aggys what they want to hear. We don't even need to read it to know it will be another aggy version of history, which we all know isn't close to how most people remember events.

I resent how Texas was depicted during the four defections, how Sharp, Byrne and Loftin attacked the personal integrity of Deloss and Bill Powers. It was crap that the administrators of a state university attacked the integrity of the administrators of another state university over athletics. It was sheer bullsh!t.

Loftin's book is set to be released the week before the season starts. We can bet Haney and Clay Travis will be quoting liberally from it to again bash the UT program. The crap we have dealt with over the past week will all be repeated again in about 6 weeks or so. Count on it. I just hope Patterson doen't sit back and let the image of the program get trashed when it happens.

So we can expect it to be listed and filed under "FICTION" on Amazon.com?   ;)

lol. I don't know the price, but you can bet it will be something like $20.12.

The whole topic of how the ags were allowed to bash Deloss, Bill Powers and the University on their way out the door is one that really p!sses me off. The inability of the media team to get the info out that people needed to understand the issue of realignment is, in my mind, inexcusable. Johnny Manziel may have been "cool" to some idiots, but the media team has done nothing to market against Manziel. And that failure is hurting us.

The celebrity power of UT dwarfs that of aggy, but few people know just how much. The Freddie Steinmark movie project will help. Some remember the Baylor game in 2012 when Natalie Portman was at the Baylor game during filming of the Untitled Terrence Malick Project (Portman, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Cate Blanchette, Benicio Del Toro, etc, etc) is coming out in 2015. That will help. Most people don't know Jon Hamm was a Sigma Nu when he went to UT. Hell, "Johnny Football" might be cool to some, but he isn't cooler than Don Draper. We have an incredible number of ways to highlight positive aspects of the UT experience for various purposes, including recruiting, and we take advantage of almost none of them.

Its frustrating as hell that the program takes the hits from others and doesn't get the information out to allow others to see the agendas of other writers. It's just as frustrating that the media group doesn't manage the image of the university, the football program or Austin to our advantage. Hopefully more info on the San Angelo coaching clinic will come out and hopefully, things are changing in the way the media aspect of the program is managed. It has just been so horrendous over the past years, it is difficult to imagine they are starting to get their act together.
