Monday Press Conference

The issue with Charlie is that the same problem that was unquestionably present with Shawn Watson seems to be present with Vance Bedford - Charlie failed to realize he wasn't getting the job done until it created a crisis within the program.

Mistakes are a part of sports. But the head coach making the same critical mistake repeatedly is not something you just laugh off. This isn't a one-game issue. It is a critical flaw in Charlie Strong's skill set. he brings in people he has a loyalty to and is unable to understand the individual is holding back the entire program and costing the players a chance to develop their potential. Charlie's loyalty should be to the players and to the program, not to the friends he hires.

Charlie is just in over his head. Other than his inability to evaluate the performance of his staff, I don't think Charlie shows good game management skills. Special teams suck and it seems Charlie has no plan to change that. These are problems that were evident in year one and still haven't been addressed. To claim the team wasn't ready to play because they wore sweats on the plane?! Are you kidding me? Charlie didn't have a clue how to get the team mentally prepared against UCLA in year 1 and he didn't do the job getting the team ready for Cal in year 3.

I will tell you what we will see for the rest of the season - a team that shows up for games unprepared to play, poor special teams, at least three more games when the defense gives up over 40 points, poor game management skills and more than a few instances when we realize what just happened to the Horns doesn't happen to well coached teams.
If all of those things happen, then a new coach will be reaping the benefits of what Strong brought in next year. Much like Mack Brown did in 1998. This next game is huge for Charlie Strong. Huge.

The question is beginning to appear as whether a new head coach should be brought in to reap the benefits or whether Charlie should be allowed to squander the team's potential for yet another year. The team has the skill to have a great year this year. The coaching staff just isn't getting the job done.

Take a few minutes and re-watch some of the Cal game. Ask yourself if Texas looks like it is on the verge of again being known as "DBU." The same coaches who built the atrocity that is the UT defensive secondary aren't the ones who are going to fix it.

I know one thing SHA, Im never EVER EVER take a late trip to Carthage and be up all night trying to watch a late night college football game with only one hour of sleep and have to work the next morning. I must have lost my mind

And yes SHA is right..you don't want to be Florida State. I rather lose by 7 than to get your ass whooped by I don't know how many points Florida State lost by.

I've watched it again, and trust me when I say we are in agreeable. The defense has pretty much always been a problem under Bedford except his first year, when Texas had experience and NFL talent. But now Texas has arguably more NFL talent. There's no more room for the "youth" excuse. Youth at major programs are playing and succeeding everywhere. It's about coaching. If the players are confused and don't know assignments., that's coaching. Plain and simple. Strong needs to fix it and quickly.

You are correct, you have the right to your opinion. I'm in no way trying to be condescending, just stating that there is a lot of football left to be played and Texas is still very much in the hunt for a Big 12 title.
I have no problem with that statement at all.

Although I don't think we will even sniff a big 12 title. But that's a difference of opinion and not a comment on your emotions.

And both you and SHA may be bastards, but you're not rat bastards. 😎

The next two games are huge. We win both of those games and this is a bump in the road. We lose both and things will get hot and if we split then were part of the mediocre Big 12.

Think of it this way, Showtime . . . one day you'll be able to say "I was there the last time Gilmer lost, way back in 2016."
