a couple of quick excerpts:
ASH’S PLAYING DAYS DONE AT TEXAS?
Multiple sources told HD Texas will not allow David Ash to practice or play for the Longhorns again, because he’s suffered concussion symptoms after the last three games he’s played in (BYU last year; Kansas State last year; and North Texas this season).
“Liability becomes an issue,†one source said.
HornsDigest.com asked Ash’s father, Stephen, if David was indeed done playing football, and Stephen Ash said, “There’s not much I can tell you at this point.â€
But sources told HD that Ash has not yet been put on a medical scholarship, which would effectively end his college playing days.
When Charlie Strong was asked if Ash was done for the year, Strong said Ash “is indefinitely out.â€
“Until the doctors make a determination, Tyrone (Swoopes) is our quarterback, and we’re moving forward,†Strong said.
One source said Texas should try Ash at punter, a position where he doesn’t take big hits, because he was an all-state punter at Belton High School.
Even that is unlikely, sources said.

BRUINS BREWING OVER NCAA RULING
UCLA found out on Tuesday that its request to invite recruits to Saturday’s game was turned down by the NCAA, per a source.
What’s the big deal?
Well this is a huge deal for many reasons, especially for those recruits that the Bruins and Longhorns are both fighting for like, oh, five-star linebacker Malik Jefferson.
Basically what this means is Texas, being the designated home team, will be the only school allowed to invite recruits at the game. The Longhorns can essentially treat this game like it’s being played in Austin.
One of the reasons UCLA agreed to play this game in Dallas in the first place was because it was initially told that it would be able to invite recruits to the game, per a source.
“They’re very pissed,†the source said. “They had been told that recruits would be permitted to attend with comped tickets for them.â€
But because of the NCAA’s ruling the Bruins are left to simmer while Texas gets to host recruits on Saturday. Recruits like Jefferson, whose mother told HD earlier today that he’d be attending Saturday’s showdown.
Jefferson is a big fan of both schools and even plans on taking an official visit to UCLA in November.
A few other recruits UCLA wouldn’t mind seeing at the game are Ryan Newsome, Soso Jamabo and 2016 DB Erick Fowler. Newsome, a four-star receiver, has both teams in his final schools.
This is how the situation plays out each year between Texas and Oklahoma, where the home team gets to host recruits while to other has to hope its performance on the field is all the talking it deems necessary.
We’ll see if Texas can take full advantage of the situation or if UCLA, who is more than a touchdown favorite, will be able to steal the show. [William Wilkerson]
