Tech was hoping he would be able to play this year after transferring from Ohio State, but the NCAA said he has to sit out for a year. They really needed this guy next year. Tech's defense is going to have some issues next year without Mitchell and Bethell. Tech lost probably their best 3 defensive players from a defense that struggled last year (Smith, Porter, and Hyder). Tech will have to score points to win games next year.

Always thought Texas should have done more to recruit Mitchell. And this story is just freaking bizarre.  Transferring from OSU to Tech?

From what I've read, I think he transferred to be closer to his sick father. I could be wrong though.

He did transfer to be close to his father.

He picked ohio state over A&M...and tech had the inside track this go around because a&ms former lb coach Matt wallerstedt is now the DC at tech.

One heck of a player, Mitchell is. I remember watching his performance at The Opening and he absolutely ripped it up.  For a big guy he has (had) incredible speed.  You guys are right - evidently his dad, Ken, has some health issues and Mitchell wanted to be closer to home/dad.  Cannot fault a guy for that.  Best of luck to him.
