Brent Zwerneman who writes about Texas A&M sports for the San Antonio Express is a graduate of A&M.  He has written several times this baseball season that the SEC…SEC…SEC… is the best collegiate baseball conference.  I wonder if he should re-think his statements of grandeur for the mighty SEC.  I believe the SEC…SEC…SEC got 8 teams into a regional.  As of today, only one SEC team is still standing and if Florida State beats Florida today in the final game of their Super Regional, the best baseball conference in the world will not have any teams playing in the CWS.  Even if Florida wins, the SEC will send only one squad to the CWS.

The  Big 12 had only three (3) teams awarded spots in a regional.  And, those three (3) teams Texas Tech, Okie State and TCU all won their Super Regional and are headed to the Big Dance of college baseball…the College World Series.  Yep, the Horn Frogs defeated Mr. Zwerneman’s SEC…SEC…SEC…Texas Aggies at Blue Bell Park in College Station.  Then to dog-pile on the mound ...salt-in-the wound.  Poooor aggies....

In Super Regional action both Okie State and TCU defeated teams from the SEC…South Carolina and A&M respectively.   Perhaps Mr. Zwerneman and the SA Express will print a retraction proclaiming the Big 12 as the Best Collegiate Baseball conference.

Based on the results of Regional and Super Regional action, I say the Big 12 got screwed.  Both ou and West Virginia should have gotten regional bids….

I suppose UT should be able to announce our new baseball coach this week.

The SEC SEC SEC had 7 teams make the tournament...ALL no. 1 seeds.  4 top 8 seeds:  1. UF, 4. Aggy, 6. MSU, and 8. LSU.  Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Vandy were no. 1 seeds.  When looking at the bracket all 7 had a clear path to Omaha.  That is to say had all 7 made it to the super regional round (UM and Vandy did not), none would play another SEC team until Omaha.  4 teams on one side of the bracket and 3 on the other.  Disclaimer.....There may be a rule where you cannot play a conference opponent until Omaha, BUT I do NOT think that is the case.  Selection committee set up the SEC for success and the pooped the bed.  Only UF is left in an elimination game today.

Now you guys know that aggy and the others were just tuckered out from playing such a challenging SEC schedule.
