The fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns kick off a five-game homestand Tuesday evening when the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders come to Austin for a midweek clash at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Texas enters as heavy favorites, and history backs that up emphatically. The Longhorns own a commanding 26-6 advantage in the all-time series and have dominated the last six matchups without a single loss, outscoring Corpus Christi 71-20 in the process.

A Season Built for the Record Books

This year's Longhorn squad is playing at a historically elite level. At 27-7 through the early part of April, Texas joins an exclusive club — only three other Longhorn teams in the past two decades reached that mark this early, including last year's squad that finished 44-14 and earned the No. 2 national seed, and the 2005 national championship team that went 56-16.

The numbers back up the buzz. Texas ranks fifth nationally in WHIP (1.16) and sixth in ERA (3.46), while averaging a robust 8.3 runs per game at the plate. Their .942 OPS sits 19th in the country, and a .981 fielding percentage checks in at 18th among all Division I programs — a well-rounded club that can beat you in multiple ways.

Texas also holds the distinction of being the highest-ranked SEC program in the current polls, sitting at No. 4 across all five major outlets.

On the Mound

The pitching matchup heavily favors the home side. Texas sends out right-hander Michael Winter (1-0, 0.00 ERA), who has been virtually untouchable in his outings this season. He'll face Islanders starter Matthew Molina (0-1, 7.84 ERA), who will need a strong performance to give Corpus Christi a fighting chance against one of college baseball's hottest offenses.

Tonight's starting lineup

Mendoza (2nd B), Tinney ( C), Robbins ( CF), Pack Jr ( LF), Becerra (SS), Borba ( 3rd B), Larson (1st), Livingston (DH), Pendergrass (RF, 1st start at Texas)

Winter gives up singles to the first two batters he faces and then walks the third. Next batter rips a two-run single to center field to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead.

Schloss visits the mound and pulls Winter after facing 4 batters.
