My question here is that why couldn't Powers put his foot down with Mack that he needed to resign - did Mack have some leverage over Powers and the latter realised that if he leaked the info then it would be difficult for Mack to stay on?

If you recall, Mack was flying around, 'recruiting', and refusing to take calls from the administration. He had a meeting with Powers and Patterson on Friday. I suppose he was having another tantrum.

In my opinion, Mack has been exposed by all of this. Regardless the spin, Mack appears to be an immature, whining, passive-aggressive personality. He hid it well, with the exception of the whining.

I hope you are right bud. Mack messed with Texas once and got what he wanted and $10 million dollars. So far, i think he won. I just dont put it past him. Actually, more than that, i think he will hang around and mess with this hire somehow. I hope im wrong.

It is true that they're not as close as many have assumed but to say they are, in fact, not speaking any longer is conjecture at this point. It may be a good guess but that is probably all it is.

Powers friends tend to be lean more to the Academic side.

From everything I've read from people who would know or heard mack will have zero input on this hire. At this point I don't think he will even get a token opinion. The steamrollers will assure of that and bill powers is on shaky ground himself

I think Mack is done...he does need to be on campus for the several days preparing for Oregon.
