Mack vs Sark. Who is the better recruiter?

the best in state recruiter was DKR. Different times and different rules.NIL makes even 4 years ago a tough comparison.Frankly.....Im think we are fortunate to have had any one of the three.

Truly you are right.

I think the Portal makes today at least twice as hard. Now you have to recruit HS and the portal. Plus you have to retain players. Add NIL and things become much more complicated. To me it's mind boggling. Why would anyone want to coach now-a-days?

I can see a lot of coaches from previous "eras" leave the sport unless they are given the resources to compete.

In this era, the job Sark has done is incomprehensible.

I agree that the portal and NIL make the job harder. But at the same time coaches are allowed to have bigger staffs to help them negotiate these new complexities. If a coach is up to the new challenges, then a place like Texas gives Sark some advantages over smaller budget schools that Mack didn't have.

It's definitely a different era with different problems, so I don't think comparing the two makes much sense.

I don't know that he was lazy. A friend of mine pointed to a surgical procedure he had done and said he didn't want to travel much after that.

Mack's mind was on Texas. At that time, aggy had been dominant in Texas recruiting. Mack wanted to change that so thats what he went after. It would have helped him to be more aggressive out of state.
Lazy might not be the exact term but it definitely seemed that way. He didn’t seem to chase the high rated players that looked out of state. He seemingly would let them walk with the attitude he wanted kids that wanted to be at Texas. Some of those kids would’ve helped him out a lot

Agree. I laughed when I read some recruiting guru or poster claim recruit is the next Vince Young.... especially aggy about their claim about Reggie McNeal 🙄
Wasn’t McNeal the same recruiting class as VY? So McNeal could not be compared to vy later….
