I look to the past for guidance on these sort of things. The year was 1989 and a guy named Jerry Jones had just bought the Dallas Cowboys. The head coach was some guy named Tom Landry.
The Cowboys had floundered the previous three seasons, going 7-8, 7-9, and 3-13. There were rumblings, and the then owner, Bum Bright, was supposed to fire Landry before Jerry and Jimmy Johnson hit town. Bright could not bring himself to fire a legend, so he left the dirty work to Jerry Jones. When they finally got around to firing Landry, the coach said this?
It's time for this guy to step up and save his legacy.
That's right, Mack must resign to save his legacy. Tom Landry came out the winner with the Cowboys. People forgot the previous three seasons and remember the Super Bowl wins and the great man that Coach Landry always was.
Coach Brown is a good man and he did lead this team to two BCS championship games and a National Championship in 2005. If he steps up and saves himself, that National Championship and Vince Young is what will be remembered.
Even to this day, you can't think of Roger Stauback without thinking of Coach Landry. That is there for Mack as well. It's up to him. He needs to step up or someone may have to give him a nudge.

Poor Mack Brown. We heard the exact same thing from him:It's a shame. I was fired up about the next season and had some ideas I wanted to use.
Someone needs to step up and save coach Royal's legacy. It's obvious that person won't be DeLoss Dodds. He like Bum Bright, doesn't have the heart to take down a great coach and personal friend.“I’m trying to fix it. That’s what I’ve done my whole life.â€
