WR Lorenzo Joe from Abiline Cooper High School has officially become the first commit of the 2014 class. Mack defied the traditional "wait and offer" philosophy. Joe is 6-2 and 180 lbs.

Could it be reverb from RSJ's lingering decision? Naah. I think Joe plays basketball and football as well.

I'm cool with it. Glad to see Mack shaking it up a bit. First the JUCO guys last season and now offering a bit earlier than usual.

The Coaching staff isn't blind to what's going on in the 2014 class. Now that they got 1 on the board, it gets them someone like Raulerson. Get around these kids and develop relationships and get them to UT. But I do agree, this is a seismic change in Mack's recruiting style to accept someone this early and hopefully this brings about change across the 2014 class.

Don't think it affects RSJ. Texas will take him regardless if he wants to come.

Texas offered a few other guys today as well in the 2014 class.

Nick Watkins, Cornerback from Bishop Dunne High School (Dallas)

Jamal Adams, Safety from Hebron High School (Lewisvile)

Hoza Scott, OLB from LaPorte High School

All received Texas offers today.

Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal High School players Demetrius Knox (Guard) AND fullback Daniel Gresham, yes I said fullback, were offered today as well. Hearing there were more offered too. Mack is keeping us all on our toes.

Arlington Martin defensive end Myles Garrett

Beaumont Ozen defensive back Tony Brown

Denton Guyer quarterback Jerrod Heard

Lewisville Hebron defensive back Jamal Adams

Fort Worth All Saints fullback Daniel Gresham

Fort Worth All Saints offensive lineman Demetrius Knox

Dallas Bishop Dunne defensive back Nick Watkins

There were a total of 14 offers made today. I just learned that DE Myles Garrett from Arlington Martin (insert Todd van Poppel reference here) was one of the 14. It is going to be a busy season boys....

Did we offer both Ed Paris and Brandon Simmons today? Reading conflicting pieces of information.

I know Paris was offered but I don't think Simmons received a formal offer, which is odd. I would have thought these two were tied like Knox and Gresham.

Honestly at this point the exact number of offers that went out are perplexing to say the least. We have counted as many as 20 but a couple of these are unconfirmed. This is really a different game for Texas as far as recruiting. LSU is offering 8th graders so people that that have an issue with Mack doing things this way need to drink a cup of coffee and wake up. I like the strategy and have always felt that kids that want to play at Texas are going to play at Texas.
