Lupoi was never found guilty of any NCAA infractions, but is this really a smart move by Saban? Year in year out Saban has NCAA problems, and he hires a guy at the center of a NCAA probe. At what point is Saban held accountable for NCAA problems, when he continually hires coaches that have shady pasts?

A problem is something that negatively affects your program. Saban hasn't had an NCAA problem in his tenure at either LSU or Alabama. He has figured out the NCAA is simply not interested in pursuing enforcement actions. He may arguably not be operating inside the rules, but he is unquestionably operating within how the rules are being interpreted and applied. So, yes, it is a very smart move for him to bring Lupoi on board if he thinks it will help his program.

True. I think there comes a point though when Saban crosses the line, and the NCAA almost has to do something. I can agree it's a smart move in the sense that Lupoi is an excellent recruiter. The NCAA has almost zero enforcement power now, so you are probably correct. I think your point is more an indictment of how big a joke the NCAA has really become.
