Longhorns searching for a QB as spring competition heats up

So if we go 5-7 or worse in 2016 you are good? NO THANKS... 9-3 is my bottom line.  Or i'm on the fire Strong train.

If having higher expectations than 11-14 for a coach making top 10 money is a being a Whinny bitch then I am a proud one then... Also without the fanbase Strong does not get to make 5 million a year so yeah I won't shut up... I find your post complete BS by the way.
Should card-carrying members of the Whiny Bitch Club get pins, caps, or t-shirts?

....and I didn't call anyone out.    What is BS about the post?  It's all true and the fan base is full of whinny bitches just like every other fan base.  There're a lot of sensitive fans to go around as well.

You fit in wherever you see fit.  I don't see this team doing worse than 7-5 this year.  So, yes...I'm fine with him returning with this staff in 2017 based on that.

The biggest question mark is and has been QB since McCoy went down in 2009.  The guy that could turn it around at the position may very well be on the roster, but I'm not a fan of playing true freshmen at QB.

No, you didn't call anyone out directly but your post implies everyone who's not on board with Strong coaching in 2017 - after yet another uninspiring 2016 season - is a "whiny bitch".

Not being satisfied with 7-5 doesn't make me or anyone else too "sensitive", either, IMO. It's not the standard here. Even Strong understands that.

Everybody defines success differently.

For me, I expect 8-4 or better with no embarrassing blow out losses (ND, TCU, or Iowa State). I wanna see improvement and UT competing every week. IMO, that's not too much to ask from a $5MM per year head coach in his 3rd season.

Not so much, people whine about this or that until their heart is content, even if this team is winning.  Folks simply need to have something to bitch about.  I never prefaced it with a record or otherwise.

We're fans and alumni.

Of course we're gonna bitch when our favorite team is under-performing. It's a sports website and blog. That's what it's here for - to vent our frustrations. I guess you can categorize that as "whining". I find it therapeutic.  ;)

I find myself bitching about folks whining.  I'm in the same boat.  Like I said.  It was a broad statement with truth about the entire fan base/bases.  Lets carry on about our shitty QB roster, it has only been in shambles since 2009.

Hopefully, we'll learn something about the QB situation during the spring game. Not that we'll learn much due to the "Keep Off" signs they'll be wearing. Scrimmages can't compare to game pressure.

Or are you "whining" about people who are whining?

Just busting your chops a little bit  :)

5 losses is less than 7, this is true. But that really doesn't feel like enough progress (certainly not enough to satisfy fans, at least). Yes, coach Strong didn't have much to work with upon arrival, but this is already year 3. He has a lot to prove. And hopefully he's still aware of that come kickoff against ND.

My guess is we won't know who starts against ND until the Monday before the game.  As much as fans want Buechele to come in and immediately take the reins, I just don't see it happening.  Buechele starting means there are a handful of QB's on the roster that he beat out for the job - which doesn't look good for Texas.
1) It would support what we already knew...none of the "handful of QB's on the roster" could get the job done.

2) It would show that Strong is bringing in better talent.

Start the guy that gives the Horns the best chance to win. If it's Buechele, play him.

Play the best player, if he is ready. Mentally & physically. If we have a good offensive line, a good tight end or two, and good running backs, the quarterback doesn't have to be perfect.

My support for Coach Strong hasn't changed.

Hook 'em!

You must be referring to times before this coaching regime.  We havent even been competitive the last 2 years, so the "whining" about not winning is justified.

I am optimistic about this year.  We have the talent now.  The defense should be improved with last years freshmen learning curve and the loss of Puke Thomas.  The offense should be improved under Gilbert, a better OL, and two good RB's.

Play whoever is best at QB for Gilbert.  I couldn't care less who is under center as long as the team is competitive.  And I dont care if Shane is a freshmen.  If he is better now than both Senior Swoopes and Heard then play him.  Shane and Sam are the future anyways.

I agree, if Shane wins the job, play him, freshman or not. I've seen plenty of other teams playing true freshman at QB that make our QBs look like they've never touched a football before. Everything comes down to QB play, IMO. The better we are at QB, the more wins we have, period.

anyone who has a bulletproof opinion right now is a dope.  i doubt anybody - including the coaches - is for sure what to expect.  regarding swoopes and his competence and confidence, so much depends on the offense, the staff, the other offensive players, and the defense.  a player who trusts those four elements doesn't even resemble one who does not.  even accuracy issues may abate somewhat if the kid has trust and some time to work with.

the offense is different, much of the staff - and especially the offensive leadership - is different, many new players - especially at o-line and receivers - are coming on line, and hopefully we're building a defense that can keep the score from getting out of hand and give the offense good field position.  if very many of these changes and improvements are instrumental, we may see several players not look like themselves, but so many variables are unknowns that there's no way to see this as anything other than great big question marks right now.

flip a coin.  that's as useful as listening to the experts.
