Longhorns extend greyshirt/receive commitment from 2015 QB

[Aaron Carrara]

Texas has extended a greyshirt offer to Matthew Merrick, a 2015 QB from Cistercian High School (Irving, TX).

Merrick, 6-3, 190 lbs, is 3-star prospect and holds offers from Colorado State and Nevada.  He visited Austin in mid-October.

welcome to the 40 acres!

We've found out that you can't have too many QB's.

I'm certainly NO judge of talent but this kid looks good to me.  Several of his highlight throws were into tight coverage and it appears to me he was able to put the ball where needed.  I also like how easy it appears for him to deliver the ball.  From what I can remember Matt's highlight reel looks very similar to Colt's - wouldn't that be a gem?

2nd year playing football as a QB...played basketball all his life.....glad to see Matthew Merrick has committed. possible full scolly after February 2015

I like this, a developmental player with potential and a willingness to do the grey shirt, never before heard of at UT.  I especially like offering it up front rather than the sec, sec tactic of advising the prospect he was a grey shirt after NSD.  Hook 'Em Matthew Merrrick & Coach Strong!

Well it's the best of both worlds I guess. You get two QBs and you really only offered 1. You take care of your needs and you can still say to Zach Gentry that he is the only scholarship QB.
