With the CWS coming to an end, Augie is up in Omaha getting a very close look at some of the Asst Coaches that are being looked at.

Todd Butler-Asst Coach at Arkansas is the front runner. He recruits the state of Texas, Coached at Blinn Jr. College and was the Head Coach at McNeese State. He knows the high schools and the high school coaches.

Matt Siegel- Asst Coach at Arizona- his 1st year there and has helped them to reach the CWS Championship Series. Was at TCU for three years previous to moving to Arizona.

Siegel went on to spend three seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Christian University. Siegel's duties at TCU included instructing the hitters and working with the offense on base running. He served as the team's third base coach.
The TCU offense showed immediate improvement under the tutelage of Siegel. The 2004 club had a .294 batting average and swiped 63 bags. The Frogs also produced 427 runs in 2004, the most since 1999.
Chad Holbrook Asst Coach at South Carolina-is a Carolina boy, Went to North Carolina and coached there for 15 years before moving on to South Carolina. He is a top notch recruiter, and a top notch developing hitters. Can he recruit players to Texas from Texas? I also see this as a very temporary move for him. He is ready to run his own program.

What kinda draw is the job honestly past being at Texas? Im not a strong baseball guy so I want to know the selling points for top guys who could have their own teams soon.

Good for him. Sounds like he is on the ground doing work that needs to be done. Enough good old boy hires - let's get winners in with every aspect of the athletic program.

I think I understand your question;

What a program will look at while at a Program like Texas;

Can that coach get the top players to campus, go to class, and for those players to perform at a top level consistently. Then turn around and get those players ready for the MLB and for those players to be successful as they can be at the next level.

No....can we get a top coach who will stick around knowing Augie will never leave

Rumor mills are beginning to run that Butler is leaving Arkansas.......
It's only an assistant coaching job but these guys get looks if the head coach ever decides to leave. We need to turn the program around next season and if Butler is the guy to help do that then I'm good with it.
