Live from Poteet vs Berkner (Malik Jefferson news)

[HornSports Staff]

Per Coach Groves at Poteet, Malik Jefferson will attend the Texas vs UCLA game. Coach Groves wasn't positive if any teammates (like Deandre McNeal) would be joining him.

[Chris Flanagan]

That's good for Texas that he still wants to see the Longhorns play after last week.

This great news. Kid wants to be a longhorn but we aren't giving him a reason to become one. Please save the we are texas that should be enough line. That is not enough anymore with our recent lack of success.

i guess that's good. i was kinda hoping there's be a media blackout of all but the ku and iowa state games.

[Matt Cotcher]

Just met with Coach Groves, Malik J & Deandre

M. Lots of good stuff in their gameplan tonight.

I'm headed over to Hanby Stadium for their game vs Berkner.

I hit Czech Stop on the way North & just had dinner at 'Mesquite BBQ' before heading to the stadium. I'm taking photos along the way and will do a Taste of Texas slideshow after I'm back in Austin.

I should've held out for dinner....Mesquite ISD rolls it out in the press box. Not only do I have wifi, then have a complete taco bar.

[Matt Cotcher]

Berkner's first three plays all went away from Jefferson. On the 4th play, Malik blitzed and Berkner's QB threw an INT.

2nd play from scrimmage & Poteet throws a deep ball to McNeal on a Go. Touchdown.

Those two came to play tonight.

[Lukus Alderman]

They obviously knew that you were there and wanted to impress.

Brick hands Malik? lol

Cotcher, back in the early 90s when I did this Mesquite ISD was rolling out the goodies then, too. I would never worry about dinner when I knew the game was going to be at Hanby or Memorial stadiums. They do it right.

21-0 Poteet

Deandre McNeal has 2 of their 3 scores. Kid is seriously legit.

[Matt Cotcher]

Ja'Quarius Avery the 'other' Poteet LB just had a pick 6.

28-0 with 3:31 in Q2.

[Matt Cotcher]

Light mist coming down now, but it's about as effective at stopping Poteet as Berkner. They tacked on another before half.

35-0

[Matt Cotcher]

Raining more heavily now. Poteet just had an 8 minute drive to the Berkner 45, then threw their first pass of the drive - touchdown.

42-0

[Matt Cotcher]

The other LB (they run a 3-4) almost has a pick 6, but the turf monster got him at the 5 (Kelton Collins). A fumbled snap costs Poteet 12 yards and they settle for a FG.

45-0

[Matt Cotcher]

There goes the shutout....Berkner scores against the 2nd team D.

45-7

Some reporter you turned out to be. You give us live updates the whole game and then fail to post who even won the dang game!

My mistake....I assumed when it was 45-7 in the 4Q, it was clear.

FINAL SCORE: Poteet 45 - Berkner 14

I'll have much more on Jefferson & McNeal this week.
