Damn, Mack refrained from commenting on Harrison's situation today in his presser. It doesn't look good.

I think at this point Longhorn fans should just expect he is not going to play. If something changes consider it a bonus.

And Texas should drink the hemlock now - because they effed up on this. Brian Davis... Mack... all of them.

In the JF front I think it is very clear that aggie has no intentions to do anything to him. When the Chancellor comes out in support of you and says you are being mistreated that pretty much sums it up. What a f##king disgrace that institution has become.

Mike, you know as well as I do that he signed those 5K autographs for CHARITY. He wanted to do GOOD.

The NCAA has become a laughing stock. I'll just say it. Dez Bryant has dinner with Prime Time and misses the '09 season. Johnny effing Football makes money hand over fist for signing his John Hancock and he will skate....

NCAA SUCKS.

I am actually shocked at how arrogant the Chancellor, administration, et al are over this whole issue. I wonder if their own arrogance is what will piss off the NCAA so it will finally grow a pair and do something.

John Sharp sucked as state comptroller so it's no surprise he landed the gig in dummyland. I heard him also bring up the "we make so much money off college athletes" crap too. Does anyone take those people seriously anymore? That is a serious question.

Per Bobby Burton

I've learned a little more about the Desmond Harrison situation.

As Jeff mentioned earlier today, the issue - as of right now - is between Contra Costa and BYU.

But there's more to it than that I am told.

Contra Costa accepted and posted the initial grade provided by BYU. Importantly, BYU rescinded the grade AFTER the grade was already posted by Contra Costa. The word is that there is a California state law that says that a school in the state can not rescind a grade or credit at a later date unless academic dishonesty or fraud is proven. No one anywhere is saying that fraud or academic dishonesty occurred with Harrison. So even though BYU wants to rescind the credit, California state law supposedly will not allow Contra Costa to do so if they even agreed with the folks from BYU, which I am told they do not.

Going even further, Texas has already accepted the grade and the credit that was passed through by Contra Costa. So here's the deal. BYU can choose to rescind its ruling on principal or on technicality (that Harrison was not taking it to gain eligibility as much as he was to graduate from Contra Costa).

On principal, BYU may also choose to re-award the coursework because a) there was no fraud or academic dishonsety, the student took the course and did the work, and B) the idea that only "BYU" student athletes or potential student athletes can take their courses brings into question whether any BYU online courses taken by any BYU student athletes should be accepted by the NCAA or even by BYU itself. However, there are still other possibilities. For example, if BYU does not choose to rescind its ruling, then the NCAA may decide whether or not to accept the credits without BYU. After all, BYU's rule is not an NCAA rule and vice versa. BYU can't tell the NCAA what to accept. Long story short, this is a complex issue. If BYU doesn't re-award the credit, then the NCAA must make a ruling. Then if the NCAA were to say no and makes a ruling that is not in accordance with state law in California, well then that's a whole other mess.

Cluster F@#K. Yes but the credit was a prerequisite for Harris to be admitted to UT as well. So if the class is negated does he still meet UT admission requirements?

BYU could drag this thing out until after we play them I assume. Does anyone know how this issue arose? I assume BYU flagged the course because WHY? Do they think Desmond Harrison would be a one man commando on the field when they face off?

BYU was fine with him taking the course until they found out he was a student athlete at that point they decertified his grade/course. At this point who knows how it is going to turn out.

I heard it is likely that we hear something next week. The biggest mystery in this whole thing is about BYU and how they can "retroactively" rescind this class? Mack in Pearland is right. This is a HOLY WAR!!!!!

Just does not make sense for BYU to make this personal against UT. If they are that petty then I hope Mack never lets off the gas in Provo.

Here's my take. This is all hogwash but let's deal with the situation. Is it all that bad if he sits out this season? Can our O-line perform without him? I would rather have him in the mix but I think the line can hold even if he doesn't play. Cochran had the leg injury and now a shoulder injury but I think they can hold steady as long as we don't suffer too many injuries to those guys.

On the flip side, this is a year in which we can be REALLY good. I'd hate to miss out on bringing all the heat in a great season.
