Lincoln Riley

From Lotus Horn on Riley.
"I just confirmed he is in Carolina, and will be through the football game tomorrow to see Crabtree play in person.

He isn't acting like someone who is about to be the UT OC."
I just saw that. Lotus does have some contacts doesn't he.

LotusHorn has been pretty good. However that post does not eliminate the chance, but does dampen it a bit.

After working exclusively with Red Raider wide receivers in 2007, Riley spent the last two seasons in Lubbock tutoring the inside receivers and serving as head coach Mike Leach's top "eye in the sky" on game day. As the program's wide receiver coach, he was in charge of the development of Michael Crabtree during his record-breaking campaign in 2007. Under Riley's watch, the freshman became the first underclassman to win the prestigious Biletnikoff Award.

Lotus seems to know Bedford, but that information on Riley could have been confirmed by anyone that follows Riley's twitter.

Bobby Burton still insisting that Watson is heavy front runner.
and Burton has missed on every assistant coaching hire so far as well, save the original 2 from Louisville. If Wickline takes the job, that will be the only one he's gotten right. Needless to say Burton's sources are drying up fast.

Hell yes on Riley. He's a badass. Don't think he's a Leach guy who doesn't run the ball. He's a Leach guy who's tweaked the system. Would be a HR if you ask me.

I usually watch a few CUSA games, but since U of h isn't playing in the conf anymore, I haven't checked them out. I like the idea of a young up and coming OC, the Big 12 is the wild west in terms of scoring so he could be good. I will wait..sounds good though.

He's 30, he is going to be drunk and stoned rolling around 6th with a pocket full of cash. Lets not inflate him too much here

I thought Id posted in this thread, but Ive seen a bunch of ECU covering C-USA. This is a good hire if it gets done. If you pair Riley with a solid defense, youre making money.

Cayleb Jones brother played there this year as a true freshman and was the teams #2 WR

ECU won 10 games this year, and the three losses all honestly surprised me.

They were blown out by Marshall, and it was just "one of those days". Carden threw 3 interceptions and they just never got anything going.

Carden also threw 3 picks against VT, and lost a fumble for a safety.

The loss to Tulane was just unacceptable.

Carden's average the last two years was about 28 TDs and 10 INTs a year. Where would UT be right now if we'd gotten 28/10 out of the QB spot this year?

When was the last time UT had at least 28 TD passes? 2009.

One might be able to make the argument either way. Texas could be too large of a stage for him at this point in his career, or he could truly prosper here with a different kind of athlete that is available here that he did not have previously.

Either way, I'm excited about the NEW direction. There is a chance, and perhaps only a CHANCE that -2 yard WR screens that are blocked horribly on 3rd down and 8 might just be a thing of the past!

That makes me giddy!

Very interesting hire and would definitely be a risky hire given his age and lack of experience calling plays in BCS conferences. However, he is a guy everyone seems to rave about. He fits the O we are looking to run and he would be around a few years. Could allow for Watson to come aboard as QB coach. I would prefer to keep Wyatt and have Wickline be run game coordinator.

Burton said the team meeting is set for 5 so I'm assuming we will get word on the hire sometime tonight.

ECU is a team (just football program not the entire school) that would fit just fine in most of the Power 5 conferences. Id consider a coaching hire from them on the same level as plucking an up and comer from a Texas Tech or a NC State type outfit. The concern is if its a Co-OC thing with Watson, they both run wildly different offenses. How does that one work exactly?

The aggie OC is 28 I believe.

Kingsbury is early 30's?

His hire as a HC is/was much more of a risk.

Ok, tell me, what did Bob Stoops do in 1999?

A defensive minded coach hired a relatively unknown OC in Mike Leach.

Then went out and got a JC QB in Josh Heupel.

Throw in a Mark Mangino and in retrospect that worked out pretty well.

I think a nice blue print to consider.

Pick one guy.

Co anything is stupid and reeks of Mack who was co and assistant everything.
