Those "sliding mitts" look like they add 3 to 4 inches of length which would help when sliding into or back into a base. Maybe I'm old school but those should be illegal. 

Edit note: Good way to start conference play by the Horns!

They look rigid. I imagine they prevent broken and/or sprained fingers/wrists. 

My Daddy had a finger that was crooked that was broken playing baseball. He didn’t have it cast because he wouldn’t have been able to play. 

That game went from a walk in the park to Whew in no time.
