GAME NOTES

THE MATCHUP—The Longhorns open Big 12 Conference play this weekend with a three-game series vs. the Kansas Jayhawks…last season, KU took two of three in Lawrence.

A LOOK AT THE JAYHAWKS—Kansas has won four straight…the Jayhawks defeated Omaha on Wendesday after a three-game sweep of St. John's over the weekend…that series sweep marked the second for KU this season and is the first time it swept back-to-back opponents since the 2014 season when the Jayhawks won nine straight to close conference play.

A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—Texas has dropped five straight following a Thursday night win over then-No. 7 Stanford…the Longhorns lost the next three to Stanford before falling in both games to No. 5 Arkansas on the road this week…the Longhorns dropped Tuesday night’s game by a 13-4 final and Wednesday’s by a 7-5 final…DJ Petrinsky hit the first two homers of his career on Tuesday and Zach Zubia added his fourth of the season in the same game…Zubia now has 21 RBI in his first season on the Forty Acres.

NEXT UP—Texas will play Sam Houston State on Tuesday nightbefore hosting Oklahoma State next weekend.

PATIENCE, YOUNG CLEMENS—Kody Clemens has opened the 2018 campaign on a tear at the plate…his 13-game hit streak was snapped last Friday vs. Stanford…it was the longest for a Longhorn since Madison Carter’s 15-game streak in 2014…Clemens has amassed 17 walks to just 8 Ks on the season and is 3-for-3 in stolen bases and holds a team-best 1.139 OPS (on-base plus slugging percetange)…he has also reached base safely in all 18 games played this season, and 19 overall dating back to the 2017 campaign.

PRESEASON POLL—In the Big 12 preseason coaches’ poll, Texas was selected to finish third behind preseason favorite Texas Tech (61) and TCU (60)…last season, seven of the nine Big 12 teams made the NCAA postseason.
