Just some thoughts...

I saw it somewhere else, but the Texas program is just like the Cowboys

BMDs = Jerry Jones

Always think they're right, when in reality they have no idea what they're doing. Just sit up there in your luxury boxes and leave the football stuff to the guys with experience. Your billions don't make you an expert on everything.

As far as the insiders with BMD contacts goes, it's becoming extremely clear that they were pushing info of the guys they wanted to be hired without really knowing what Patterson had in mind. All the BMDs wanted Saban, so that's all you heard about. After that, it became a who's who of coaches that BMDs had above other ones.

Wholeheartedly agree. All this is doing is causing a rift in the fan base which only sets Texas up to fail long term, either support the potential hire or pull your support. Texas survived before you and they will survive after you.

First off I want to apologize for not being around last night... I had a personal matter to take care of... Tied me down from about 7-12.
I know a certain BMD is not happy about the strong hire at all. Chances are he will most likely pull his donations. Mad is not even the right word he is livid.

Strong is not the right hire, it's a rushed hire by Patterson cause he was feeling the heat and nervousness that he might missed on Fisher and Saban. I love what Nuuf posted on Obloods basically confirming what we were reporting for weeks. Yet got laughed at. Texas was still on Saban up until like NYE. Then things got quiet. All the BMD besides Jamail wanted Saban. Patterson got nervous, which he shouldn't have. You have to stay strong. Worst case he could have gotten Gruden.

Patterson got supported by the bug guys to get Saban or a big name. Then he settles for Strong and his whole sub-par staff. There are a lot of unhappy people right now. How dare Bellmont leak the strong info when it wasn't finalized.

Strong will most likely end up as coach. But the stuff in the background is as unsettled as ever. People are not happy with Patterson.

Thanks everyone for being a part of Hornsports and realizing we post what we here when we here it.
So, now the reason Saban isn't coming is because SP wasn't patient. How convenient of you! Saban would be our coach just as you said 100% if not for SP panicking. IMO we just got played by Saxton. Way to save your reputation there sport.

Thanks Shaunters. I think Strong bringing his whole first HC staff would be ridiculous. Shows the downside of his loyalty and emotion. Not ready for this big of job if so. If Patterson wants to be the man, he needs to hold the line on this and if CS falls, he falls, and Patterson can pick up with the big 4 remaining. He will have BMD support there.
If Patterson doesn't do this right, when Powers retires in a year, the BMDs will and should bring in a president who can clean out Patterson. If any falter of Football, Patterson would and should be the fall guy for handling it this way. His only option now is to make sure CS brings in the best offensive staff possible or walk. This is big time stuff year for these guys as leaders. Interesting to see how their egos and intelligence play out.
So, you're now bitching about a staff that has won 11 and then 12 games in the last two years! Amazing...

and basing it off an unconfirmed rumor that the guy who started it is walking back.

See my post. Strong needs to bring the right staff with him and Patterson needs to hold the line there. This could work, but there are a lot of risks and Strong and Patterson are not going to have 5 years to make this work out. Stakes are going to be high and patience thin.
Mack, Mr. Football, almost got his 5th year! It will be a combination of on field performance and recruiting. If they both start trending down it will not go well for the HC.

Pretty sure you won't have any issues getting tickets... Probably for cheap so enjoy!
I am curious why you think it is such a bad hire. I keep seeing a few like you say it is such a bad hire, but with no valid reasons. I am honestly not trying to flame.

Please don't misunderstand me. I like CS, a lot actually. It's what DeLoss has or should I say hasn't done over the past 4 years- meaning allowing our program to hit rock bottom-It's the circus around MB and his departure coupled with the circus that continues today. Patterson allowed it. I would hope that the 1) buyout issues were resolved before today 2) that CS should have talked to his people and 3) that this now staffing debacle get resolved. No one in your right mind is going to bring coaches with NCAA violations against him. Go back to Tennessee wanting CS and the parallel is troubling. I just want to get back (in time I realize) to the powerhouse that we used to be.

Geeze, stop speculating. The Hurtt thing is already blowing up in your face, he's not coming to Texas, was probably told to Strong he wasn't coming with him. There were never any substantiated reports claiming Hurtt was a holdup. Patterson hasn't allowed crap to happen. This circus you keep claiming is being lead by BMD's throwing tantrums over not getting their way.

Kelly, thanks for your rational take. Wish more people would say it like that rather than just taking sides.

I agree on the process and how it has been an embarrassing cluster. As far as the wanting to bring his coaches, I am hearing way to many conflicting reports so I will let that play out. I mean on one hand I understand having some loyalty to the staff that helped get you where you are, but you are right trying to bring a guy with violations like that is not a bright idea. IF that is actually the case. I am not sure it is.

I think the last piece regarding the "I just want to get back (in time I realize) to the powerhouse that we used to be. " I get that and honestly I think is one of the things that get us passionate fans up in arms against even each other. We really hate what we have become over the last several years.

Frankly, I'm glad some BMD's are mad. They weren't part of the solution, they were part of the problem. They are the epitome of entitlement, and that we don't need. More and more I am getting a man crush on Patterson. He is his own man and, right or wrong, he is going to be the one that makes the decisions. Particularly when it comes to the responsibilities of his job. I saw this in him when he was in Houston. The man has a hard head and won't be bullied by a few billionaires. So I can understand why they are mad.

The way it should work, at Texas, is for the BMD's to stay the hell out of it unless Patterson asks specifically for their help. If one of them has a tantrum and wants to take his toys and go home, then I say good riddance. He wasn't a Longhorn supporter in the first place. He won't be missed.

Saban was never coming here - that was just wishful thinking and his agent playing the field for his client base. Saban signing his extension was the exclamation point on that deal.

I happen to know that Strong was vetted to a fair-thee-well, and is more than qualified. This was NOT a rush decision, Strong was determined, by UT, to be the man for us.

Personally, I preferred Saban. I would be stupid not to. He is the best college coach in America - today. But Saban wasn't coming - EVER.

Furthermore, the only reason Strong hasn't signed a contract yet is because he is classy enough and conscientious enough to give his President and AD the courtesy of a face to face meeting before signing.

Charlie Strong is our coach.

I'm not sure leaving the hiring up to the BMDs is the right thing... We may still be sitting here in July waiting on Saban because they won't take no for an answer. Also do they all have a great track record hiring coaches.

Didn't Red hire Mike Tice with the Vikings and Didn't Hicks overspend on A-Rod to the detriment of the Rangers?

Patterson was hired to do a Job and I believe when you hire someone to do a job you should let them do it. If they make choices and they don't work out then fire them but give it a chance to work out. I think some folks would not be happy with any but 3 coaches all of which have probably said no or their agents said the interest was not there.

Also with all the BMD leaking stuff and the fact that Texas just forced out the second winning coach in school history after an 8-5 season can make even the best step back and say those guys are crazy. I know we are all closer to this and have been dealing with the let downs and obvious issues in the program and new Mack had to go. Outside of Texas it may not look that way to everyone. We can't always get what we want and sometimes have to live with what you get and move forward from there.

I wanted Saban but have had Strong pegged as the guy since the loss to BYU for the very reasons I outlined above. When you fire a winning coach it can make the job look a bit toxic.

LOL... That way of thinking in 1933 worked out so well for the German people...
If you will review the history books, I think even you will see there is no correlation between the hiring of a football coach and the rise of the most heinous mass murderer of the 20th century.

I couldn't stomach reading every response, so I just jumped to the end to reply to the OP. I'm a UT alum, Foundation member/donor and 4-time President of our local Texas Ex association. And any BMD who is "pissed" and wants to pull their donation can kiss my Longhorn ass and go piss on themselves. I'm sick of this "BMD running things" BS.

Do you have anything positive to say about anything UT sports related? Your act is tired.
C'mon man, after we worked everything out already in the other thread?!?!...notice the lol? As in kidding around...ok move along now.

You almost made me jump offside with this post. Then I reflected on your body of work and I must commend your superhuman ability to instigate. You are a master.
