For me if it's not Saban or Fisher I would want Briles over any of the other second tier candidates due to his ties to Texas. Everyone needs to just get over all the negative stuff with him. Bottom line he can coach offense and recruit. Give him a good defensive staff and he would kill at Texas.
That said I hope it's Saban or Fisher.

I don't like Harbaugh due to his time away from the college game and lack of immediate ties to Texas high schools.

Great defense goes hand in hand with "Ball Control" offense. Not the Throw it all over the yard offense Briles likes to run.

Please keep Briles at Baylor and give me John or Jimbo.

We better get told no by Saban, Fisher, John Harbaugh and Gruden before settling for Briles. I'm making the assumption that guys like Jim Harbaugh, Shaw and Meyer have already told us no.

I completely agree Longview. If we end up with a coach not on this list of seven, from my perspective UT will have failed to leverage its resources in making the hire. Obviously, this is a list of coaches already in possession of great jobs, but UT can afford to give any of them a raise. All seven of them aren't going to turn down $7-8M per year and access to all that UT offers. Someone will bite if you make the pitch.

Discounting Saban, if John Harbaugh, Gruden, and Fisher are actually interested in the job, you've got to land one of them, as they all have more skins on the wall and more clout than any of the tier 2 candidates.

I think the game last night has hurt Briles stock a little bit. Being 2-6 in bowl games, poor defense, and most undisciplined team (with the most penalties in the country so far) may have dimmed his star a little bit. I think the people running the show want accountability and clearly that doesn't exist in Waco. Most people think he is attractive because of

what he has done at Baylor (which has been amazing) and his Texas high school ties. But when you take a look under the hood I am not sure he is a good match. He doesn't like dealing with reporters or BMDs, so how would he fit with the LHN? It was said he didn't even own a tie before RG3's Heisman's ceremony. I am not sure I buy that because at

his age he would have had to go to a few funerals. If he got the job he could do well if he hired the right assistants, but I don't think I would be overly excited.

To me, I think it is still between Saban, Jimbo Fisher, with John possibly being in 3rd, and Briles in 4th. Not sure I believe Saban is going to happen and at best that is a short term deal. I think Fisher might be the better option. But there is still a part of me that wants Saban just for all those people that said "There is no way Saban would leave Bama for Texas".

While the score was a disappointing 45-31, I will take a 2 TD loss on a 10-2 "down" year versus the last 4 yrs. how many times have we lost 65-13 to OU?
