Buechele to be back up until Heard is cleared.

Begs the question, why not Kai Locksley as the backup?

Sterlin Gilbert said everybody had a clean slate with him, so we can probably rule out "Kai is in Strong's doghouse".

I guess he just hasn't been impressive

It just seems odd. I know Kai spent a lot of time in the off season working to become a better QB.

guess we will find out if Kai has chance to stay at QB. a new 3rd teamer is now needed if it is Merrick then Kai needs to move to WR

Per a UT press release, Soph. QB Jerrod Heard sustained a shoulder injury to his throwing arm at practice. He's undergoing further evaluation at this time to assess the severity.

It's Mikes anniversary today so he is probably planning a fantastic evening for his wife and just missed the other thread. Happy Anniversary Mike.

So, where did a coach actually say that Buechele was now the backup QB?
In all fairness, the coaches have not said anything concrete about the QB depth chart. They haven't called anyone "starter" or "backup", everything has been based on who has been getting reps. Shane had been getting the 3rd team reps, I think it's understandable to presume that he'll be working with the 2nd team now. If he's working with the 2nd team tomorrow, I think it's fair to say that he's the primary backup for now.

This is from the spring football thread

Chip Brown notes from Today Press Conference with Sterlin Gilbert:

Is there a QB on campus who can run the offense?

"Yeah. One of these three guys can and will."

Brown, C. (2016). http://www.scout.com...sterlin-gilbert

Gilbert said it's between Swoopes, Heard, and Buechele.

Read this from Anwar on OB:

"Meanwhile, Shane Buechele will be Tyrone Swoopes' backup until Heard is cleared to play."

Take it FWIW.

I'll be interested if any senior QB loses out to another QB this spring. That would be our chance to get a grad transfer QB.

This is bad news. I'm guessing if he misses the rest of the spring then that could really make it a Swoopes, Buechele, and maybe a transfer for the starting job.

I looked it up and ever since we recruited Colt McCoy in 2005 these are the quarterbacks that committed to Mack Brown. Mack has recruited eleven QB's since Colt and all QB's have been disappointments in one way or another. What a mess!

2006- Sherrod Harris, Jevan Snead

2007- GJ Kinne

2008- none (Andrew Luck wasn't good enough).

2009- Garrett Gilbert

2010- Case McCoy, Connor Wood

2011- David Ash

2012- Connor Brewer, Jalen Overstreet

2013- Tyrone Swoopes

2014- Jerrod Heard

All of those misses are excusable and are indeed excused if we had snagged Andrew Luck. He is my favorite QB in the NfL
