Hearing reports that Traylor is interviewing with Missou on Wed for the OC position has anyone else heard this?

HD boards are saying he's also interviewing with Colorado.

Traylor is a hot commodity

Yes, I am from east Texas and I am hearing he is upset he wasn't given an opportunity to be OC. I wondered the same thing. Great Texas HS coach, multiple state titles, dynamic offense..........and we hire two from a 6-6 Tulsa.

How could he be upset when he was literally helping Strong interview the candidates? I'm sure he just looks at these schools as an opportunity to be the man. Can't fault him for that. But Strong wasn't out of line for looking at external candidates.

Yeah - for someone supposedly upset about not being given the opportunity - he sure as hell did his best to get other people hired for the job.  I expect Texas will be giving him a raise - we'll see if its enough to keep him here.

I have seen different amounts of what Traylor made this season (132k to $275k)

Anyone know the correct amount?

With one year left

Misery rumored to be offering 2 yrs/$450k

Less than one year out of high school coaching, no D1 experience as sole play caller and he is upset because the wasn't given full control of the offense of one of the largest programs in college football.

And, need I point out any claims of unquestioned greatness evidenced by his nine months of college coaching are tempered by the fact the vaunted offsense got shut down completely (and shut out) by freaking Iowa State. Make fun of Tulsa's 6-6 record all you want, but in those six losses, they gave up 52 to OU, 66 to Memphis, 49 to Cincinnati and 38 to U of H. In short, it was the team's defense that sucked. The Tulsa offense scored more points against OU than any other team this season. The only team to score more points against Navy other than Tulsa was Notre Dame. The Tulsa offense held its own this past season.

Any assistant coach who is so self absorbed and clueless as the the complexities of coaching that he believes he should be elevated to the top of the profession after nine months experience at the college level isn't much of a loss to any program. If Traylor is indeed upset because he isn't rising up through the ranks as fast as he believes he should, I'm thinking Charlie made the right choice by not giving him a shot at the OC spot. It is that type of entitlement attitude that Charlie has been trying to get rid of.

Love this guy!  Knows how to play the game apparently as most coaches from high school would be content.  He is outworking guys on the recruiting trail and has aspirations to climb the ladder.  I could see him leaving for an OC job, that would be a no brainer, but hope UT pays the man and gets creative with his title so he feels its an advancement to his career.

FWIW - When rumors came out about Bedford getting interviewed for HC position last year - stories said that Charlie encouraged his assistants to interview for promotions.  As a coach who was passed over many times, he knew that you might only have so many opportunities, so at the very least you should investigate them.

Similar to Strong's telling kids to take their OV's so that they know whether or not Texas is the right place for them.

I think he probably encouraged Traylor to take the interview - but with the understanding that Texas is willing to bump his salary if this is where he really wants to be.

But I don't actually know shit - just thinking out loud.

I'm from East Texas as well. Haven't heard anything like that from anyone. Wouldn't make sense. Traylor was Strong's wingman throughout this process. He knew exactly what was going on and who was being offered what. Jeff is a smart guy, he knows he's not quite ready for the jump to college OC yet.

Two things I have learned over the years as a manager:

  1. You should consider everyone expendable...or maybe stated a little better...you should be ready to replace anyone on your staff at any time.
  2. Never prevent any of your staff from exploring opportunities that they believe could improve their situation.

What about Perrin?  The actual AD.  Fenves, IMO, already did more than he should have had to.

Perrin said a few weeks ago in an interview he was going to NYC to hang with Ricky for the Heisman stuff.

Did he go?  When did he leave Austin? Will we ever see an accounting of that trip?  Was he already in NYC?  Was his family with him?  What were they doing?  How did they get there?  Who paid for the trip?  Did he use a Department provided resource to get there?

Given what was happening with the flagship program in the last week, was it prudent for our AD to take that trip, or should he have remained in Austin to support his embattled head coach?

Did Fenves have to order him to get back to Austin?

What does his radio silence over the last week mean?

Does Arthur Johnson have a dog in this fight?
