Its time to fire Strong

Bottom line is scoring points. You can pick stats apart but at the risk of sounding stupid, it's score points and don't let your opponent score. Of course many things factor into how successful you are at this. One of the things that has driven me nuts the last two years is Charlie's team make so many mistakes. Penalties, execution, poor preparation. These are things bad teams do.

I'm also frustrated in a lack of improvement. That goes to coaching. (Coming from a retired coach)

I want so bad for Charlie to succeed but it's just not happening. I worry he will lose the team quickly next year if they get off to a bad start.

Jeez, all you had to do was ask  :D

Texas is T70 in points scored and T87 in points allowed.

If Tom Herman is the coach and man everyone thinks he is, there is no way he leaves Houston after one year.

My best case scenario:

  1. hire new AD
  2. give Strong one more year...he should be able to compete for the Big12 Championship next year...no more excuses.
  3. if Strong fails, go after Herman

Well might as well let Strong go now cause there is basically zero chance we are competing for a Big 12 championship next season.

I was concerned with Meacham going to UNT and could be a blow to getting Cumbie.  As for Traylor, sure go ahead and take our BEST coach on staff.  Figures.

Herman would be foolish not to take the Georgia job if offered.

It's a destination job, too.

This is nothing that we don't already know but thought it was interesting considering where it came from.

The wife works with someone who has a cousin on the team who plays on offense and who gets considerable playing time. Says that, as far as the team has been told, that Charlie will definitely be back next year but has been told that he must hire a new offensive coordinator.

I know I'm probably going to be in the minority here but I really don't care for a head coach making this kind of statement. I see it as he's really throwing the present team, and last years team, under the bus and not taking any responsibility for the team's record the first two years.
Agree.  Consider this is coming from a coach who starts J Gray even though Foreman and Warren have both been more productive with this OL.  Its not Strong's fault he decided to keep Watson as OC until after the first game of 2015, obviously its the players fault for not executing it correctly.

Anwar Richardson confirming that Sonny Cumbie is who Strong is after for OC.
I do not know much about Cumbie.  I do know he doesnt call the plays since Meacham does.

What worries me about getting him is how much of Cumbie's success is by his doing or Boykin just being a competitive and gifted player.   Add Doctson to this scenario as well.

The reason for this concern is Watson and Bridgewater.  Boykin is probably the MVP for the Big 12.  Without Boykin TCU isn't as impressive.

Sometimes great players make the coach and not vice versa.

I don’t see how anyone can think the UT football will be better off by firing Charlie after this season. He’s got some catching up to do, some of it of his own making, but he deserves a chance to see this GREAT recruiting class of current freshman at least through their sophomore season. If he’s fired, we’ll have an awful recruiting class in 2016, plus a lot of bitterness among next year’s sophomores who are now ready to grow big time over the off-season. Look how many games they lost by three points or less. Those freshmen KNOW they can compete and now know what it will take to get over that hump. Taking out Charlie this year would be insane, not to mention totally useless. He's earned another year.

Out of curiosity, how would you guys feel about seriously money slapping Richt to be the new OC? I know he'll likely end up a Head Coach elsewhere but it could be a good road for Mark. If the offense is amazing next year but the team continues to lose, he has a potential in to replace Strong.

He's part of the Leach Tree.  It should be entertaining and Cumbie is the QB coach that is developing Boykin.

Johnny certainly created the AG SWAG so your not wrong in that assessment.
