Its time to fire Strong

And you know this how?  Strong told you?  You had a premonition? A friend of a friend with a BMD?  With this kind of inside knowledge, I smell a new Longhorn blog.  Seriously, people should be paying you for this kind of insider information--few have a direct link to the HC.  Don't protect your sources, let's hear them.  Ben Carson?
I never said I had inside info asshat. But several mods at other sites who I respect have said the same. Strong was loyal to Watson but keep believing whatever you want.

Strong is going to survive past 2016.  I posted elsewhere but Strong is taking solid programs with more experienced players to the wire with FRESHMEN.  Let that sink in and now say Strong won't do better with Sophmores.  Some fans have their minds made up.  He's bringing in a pretty good class that should he finish with 3 to 4 good DT's and already good OL's, a good to great safety and things get better immensely.  This program is moving in the right direction--just not winning now.  A good OC--he already recognized good ones that Patterson wouldn't bring in so it's not like he can't ID talented OC's.
Yeah he took a solid Iowa State program to the wire. LMFAO. How about WVU? Strong has had 9 of his 23 game end in blowout fashion. Hell he should be coach of the year.

I do think most are correct that Strong will most likely be back in 2016. UT seems to love sucking for a few years before they get pissed enough to make a change. Hopefully it won't take as long this time as it did in the 90's.

I like how the argument changes--Strong played for a weak conference at Louisville and beat a few good teams while Herman does it at UH and gets all the credit. Let's see how Herman does with his bowl game which should be against a better team. It's a fantastic argument, except that he hasn't done it long, won't do it much longer at UH and is still an unknown commodity.  Remember when Boise State was beating big named teams and setting their conference alight?  I'm not on Herman's bandwagon yet.  And it is interesting too that Charlie went after Herman and Morris but wasn't able to get either since Patterson denied both.  However, we still won't let this enter our already made mental narrative.
Exactly how does my argument change?

I said UH is a "so-so" team playing "so-so" teams.  Rotty said Strong would be 10-0 if he played Bowling Green, Tulane etc.  Well no shit.  But UH is not loaded with talent and their competition is comparable to them and they are still 10-0.  You dont want to give Herman credit for beating #21 Memphis with a 3rd string QB and being undefeated?  Each to his own but its funny watching you come out swinging to defending Strong's 4-6 and yet giving Herman no credit for being 10-0 in his first year with a rather average team.

How many draft picks did Charlie have at Louisville?  10? 12?  So you are telling me UH has 12 NFL picks in the next 3 years?  I know Charlie developed players but get real you dont get drafted by pure development only you must have speed, size, height, hands etc.  Attributes you cant teach.  I guess the 3rd String QB at UH should be compared to Teddy Bridgewater?

I think most fans want Strong to succeed. Why wouldn't they?  and this where I fall but I just don't think he will at this point and I hope I am wrong on this.
I think there are plenty of people who want nothing more than for Strong to fall on his face.  Hell - one of the universities biggest donors is one of them.

But thats not really what I was addressing.  I'm talking more about the two camps that have formed and how they are described by each-other.

Strong will get another year.

He needs another year to bring in more talent.  Our OL will be much improved next year if we land Delance.

Strong was 11-2 in his 3rd year at Louisville after being .500 his first 2 years.

I think Strong is gone if we lose the last two and finish 4-8. Just my opinion

You could be right. But what is the difference between 4-8 & 5-7. If you feel he is not the right coach winning one more game is not going to change your mind.

Boise State argument is a good one when you consider Hawkins and Koetter's lack of P5 success at Colorado & Arizona State - jury's still out on Petersen at Washington.

FYI - Patter$on did not "deny" Herman. He decided to stay at Ohio State on his own. I can't blame him for declining to pay a $5MM buy-out for Morris' contract at Clemson. That's too much for an OC, although it's chump change in hindsight if we buy-out Strong's $15MM contract.

These aren't the only two knowledgeable spread operators out there. Nobody but Watson wanted to work for Strong?

From reading the various sites, what JBTexEx says about Herman is what really happened. Most likely, it was going to be Watson all along.

And it would have been absolutely ludicrous/stupid/idiotic to pay a $5MM buy-out for an OC.

Good point

I'm just really disgusted right now, like most fans and Exes. The last two games have left a really bad taste in my mouth. We've seen what this team is capable of against OU - why do we play flat and unmotivated so often?

I really wanted Strong to succeed and won't be surprised if he's back, but I'd hate to miss out on Herman because I truly believe he's gonna be a great HC. It's a conundrum for our BMDs and administration.

I'm not convinced that Herman is a conundrum for our administration. And I think it's probably only a small minority of the BMD's. With you on everything else you said.

Yep when I am attacked I attack back.  Call it what you will.
have to love those that resort to name calling when they get called out.  Totally in control.  After such a compelling argument, the floor belongs to the circus and name callers.

Let's bring this thread out of the shadows and the weeds and deal with what we do know.

Texas is 4-6

Texas is 8th best team in the Big XII. They were beaten soundly by ISU and W Va while posting convincing wins against Kansas and Kansas State (a combined 0-13 in conference play for those two). If they happen to rally and defeat Tech I will amend their ranking to 7th or 6th in conference.

What has this team done to show any of us that they will win out, claim a crappy bowl game, secure Charlie's job and give us all a positive feeling going into next year? We all thought the corner had been turned after the RRR.

By what metric does anyone believe that Texas will defeat Tech?

How can the OU victory be explained as anything other than OU coming in over confident, not ready to play and playing their worst game of the year along with Texas coming in motivated and playing their best game of the season?

I want Texas to win out but can we not act shocked that this team will most likely finish 4-8? Disappointed? Yes. Angry? Yes. Shocked? No.

I think the disconnect is the acceptance that this is what we are right now. Nobody wants to accept it. I don't like it but I recognize that this is what it is. How is parting ways with Charlie going to turn this around? Short of the savior Saban gracing us with his process (and the monster class that he would pull in), does anybody really believe that Texas is going to coach its way out of this funk?

We need more talent.
