Its time to fire Strong

I posted this on another thread but it applies here as well...

So the excuse was no talent and now it is no support. What support did he need to be a better coach? Good lord our administration is a complete shit show.
Excuse from who?

As for support - how about paying QC coaches what Kansas pays theirs? How about letting coaches eat with the players? Making it a place people wanted to work at?

Yep that all led to us losing 24-0 to Iowa State.

how about paying the buy out for Chad morris?
The choice was always Watson. Strong was never going to hire Morris. Also had we hired Morris last year he would not be here this year. According to many of you Strong should be coach of the year.

where the hell has anyone said that? All I'm saying is he needs one more year regardless of how the season ends. All firing him would do is set us back even further. If he doesn't have 8 wins next year then fire him. But judging him after one recruiting class just doesn't make sense to me. Expecially when the freshman are the best players on the team.

I have not once in this thread called for Strong to be fired. But how anyone can think he has done a good job here is beyond me. Yes the talent is not great but to accept the losses and beatings we are taking you have to believe we have the worst roster in college football and that is just not true. Also if the problem is all no talent then why is Strong going to replace coaches here in a few weeks? Why not just keep them until the better talent is here. Surly we cannot judge the job they are doing because of the lack of talent. So we are to believe the assistant coaches suck and the talent is bad but Strong is doing a fine job. Ok then.

Fair assessment. My biggest concern is the blowouts. 9 games with at least 18 point loss.  Strong will probably get 2016 but I don't think he survives after that.
Strong is going to survive past 2016.  I posted elsewhere but Strong is taking solid programs with more experienced players to the wire with FRESHMEN.  Let that sink in and now say Strong won't do better with Sophmores.  Some fans have their minds made up.  He's bringing in a pretty good class that should he finish with 3 to 4 good DT's and already good OL's, a good to great safety and things get better immensely.  This program is moving in the right direction--just not winning now.  A good OC--he already recognized good ones that Patterson wouldn't bring in so it's not like he can't ID talented OC's.

I understand your point.  All I am saying is its comparable.  UH beat those schools but since when did you ever consider UH to be on the same level as a Top 10 team?  Those schools have less talent but in the end they are playing each other and therefore its pretty equal on the field.

Im pretty sure Baylor or TCU would smack around UH as well.  But I do not believe for one second UH is even remotely equal in talent to UT.

Herman has done a great job against "so so" teams with a "so so" team.   Undefeated his 1st year.  Give the guy credit.

Yes UT beat the shit out of HoeU.  In the 2 years Strong has been here he has outcoached Stoopes.  The best game this year by far and my one moment of pure happiness this entire football season.
I like how the argument changes--Strong played for a weak conference at Louisville and beat a few good teams while Herman does it at UH and gets all the credit. Let's see how Herman does with his bowl game which should be against a better team. It's a fantastic argument, except that he hasn't done it long, won't do it much longer at UH and is still an unknown commodity.  Remember when Boise State was beating big named teams and setting their conference alight?  I'm not on Herman's bandwagon yet.  And it is interesting too that Charlie went after Herman and Morris but wasn't able to get either since Patterson denied both.  However, we still won't let this enter our already made mental narrative.

Just putting two and two together here, I don't anticipate anything from the PC. Have no idea what its about, but I doubt seriously its about him leaving.

Stuff is coming to a boil though.

And no, he is not wanting out at Texas. But that's what you'll keep hearing.
If I'm going to speculate rationally, I can do so a lot better for him to stay.

And you know this how?  Strong told you?  You had a premonition? A friend of a friend with a BMD?  With this kind of inside knowledge, I smell a new Longhorn blog.  Seriously, people should be paying you for this kind of insider information--few have a direct link to the HC.  Don't protect your sources, let's hear them.  Ben Carson?

if you're not with us, you're against us so you must love CS and think he's coach of the year.  A total logical conclusion to giving CS 3 years to show improvement after two full recruiting classes.

I've had a busy night catching up with some of the chatter.

You replace coaches who's contracts were up (or reup them)  as well as the OC coach he relieved.  HC's always recruit the top players and they also recruit better coaches and recruiters when they're deficient in areas.  If he's taking the fall for the football portion of the program, then he should get say in his coaching decisions.   We know the back story on some of his assistants. Plus there's nothing that says coaches like Wick want to remain at Texas--why should he when he has an upcoming trial and constant attention of the state as well as Strong's likelihood to remain as HC?  I like Wick and think he's done well with what he's had (two freshmen starters is commendable) but he's going to get picked up by another program pretty quickly should he leave.  I'd like to look at Jeff Grimes and Robbie Caldwell amongst others.  But what I like about Wick is he can coach spread alignments and concepts and is familiar with the type of players needed to block for them.

their contracts are up--either let them go or reup them.  However, there's more data points on how they fit the current system Strong wants to operate and how they recruit.  Coaches always go after top talented players, why wouldn't they do the same with assistant coaches, especially when their job is affected?  Before he was hamstrung by Patterson and now he's not--maybe he had a few others that he was interested in.  I don't know and neither does anybody else.
