Its time to fire Strong

Shake your head all you like Pringle. I wasn't refereeing anything. Simply making a suggestion. I've been told and called far worse by posters but I never left because of it. This is a message board. It's the Internet. You give/take and move on. All I was suggesting was to avoid allowing the discussion to become personal. Because I like both STP and SHA as posters and members of the board. I issued no threats. I had no intention of doing anything beyond letting STP know that he was getting a little touchy with his responses. If you'd like to pretend the conversation wasn't a little contentious, than you have that right. Just as I had my right to respond. You claiming that I had no right to post my opinion is the only overstepping I've seen in regards to the spat. Like I said, if Street couldn't handle someone suggesting he not "be a prick for the sake of it" (key here, I'm suggesting he not be one/not claiming he is one) then it's probably best he doesn't hang out on the internet where far worse things are said by the second.

It's funny to me that I'm being painted as the villain here because I dared speak against a popular poster. If folks would like me to leave, and if that is what STP wants for his return, just let me know. Just know that even STP has said worse to posters on this board and they moved on. I'll say this again, I don't think STP left because of my remark. He's more emotionally stable and mature than that. The emotions are really running high this week.
STP wasn't having a discussion with you. He was talking to SHL. There was nothing personal about the debate at all until you intervened.  If it was your intent to help...you failed. Not one reason in the world that you should have addressed a comment to STP. Instead of trying to defned youself...you need to acknowledge you didn't handle it the right way and move on.

I would hate to see the Ty Willingham / Charlie Wies affect happen at UT...Ty was dismissed way too soon as he was building recruiting classes. Charlie Weis comes in and has success with Ty's recruits and we all knew what happened once Ty's recruits graduated.....
Agree with this^^^. Saw on another thread that we have a commitment coming this Friday. Would hate to see all of the recruits we have sold on Strong and Texas fade away if we make a sudden change. Not happy with how things are going right now, but it seems that if Strong gets his guys.....and an upgraded staff Texas will be successful. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Also, talking about coaching others recruits we can throw Stumbkin in to this with his OL success with Sherman's recruits.
PS: anyone know where Willingham is now?

Not to mention. What message are you giving to recruits? If the coach you agree to play for doesn't have it all figured out in two years, he's out.

Under no scenario can I see it possible for Texas to fire Charlie Strong after just two years. NONE. I'd see him leaving on his own accord before UT pulls the trigger.

If Texas gets beat by this Kansas team,  I think that will get him fired but I don't think the Longhorns lose and Charlie does finish the year.  If Miami does want Charlie as their Head Coach then that is the only reason I think we might not have Charlie for a third year.

I wrote this in the other thread - but Charlie Strong isn't walking away from being the Head Coach at Texas and 10 million dollars to go work for less money at a less prestigious university and football program with less administrative and fan support.  He's not going to leave Texas before the job is finished.  He might leave after - or get fired before he finishes - but I don't believe for a second that he would walk away right now.

Some folks had to high of expectations based on the roster flip.  I didn't see this team winning more than 5 or 6 games this year.  While the ISU games and the three true road games this season definitely get under my skin, I expected the movement to begin in 2016.  If you fire Strong, you set us back further.  I expect nothing less than an 8-4 season next year.  If he can't get that done than so be it.  But, I'm not ready to help him pack, yet.  I figure we finish this season at 5-7.  My pre-season prediction was 6-6.

Agree that Coach Strong won't quit, but I don't think its b/c of the money.  He could very well feel more comfortable coaching in the state of Florida and the Miami job certainly interests him b/c of that, but if he quit coaching at UT and then didn't have success at Miami, he would essentially become an assistant coach for the rest of his days in the coaching industry.

Its pivotal for Strong to win at UT for his career; therefore, I'm suprised we don't hear about JUCO QBs being considered by this staff as Buechele certainly isn't going to step in and start and that will still leave (3) projects on campus.  If those are your QBs next year, seriously doubt this team goes 8-4, which is the ceiling more than likely for next years team IMO.

Why?  I wouldn't count out anyone winning that job.

Exactly!!  How many recruits are going to commit and how many commits are going to stick around when/if they figure out that the UT head coach's position is temporary with the possibility that it'll be permanent if we're in the running for the championship (Big 12 and national) within 2 years?  We put up with mediocrity from Mack on the field and on the recruiting trail for 4 - 5 years towards the end.  All you've gotta do is look at the kid's that Charlie's brought to know that he's on the right track and will, if given time, get the program turned around.

On another note...the BMD's bitching and moaning about Coach Strong and the state of the program should take a look at their role in this.  I love Mack Brown and what he did for the program but after the loss to Bama and the following season it was pretty apparent that he wasn't going to get the program back on track.  If they'd let him "retire" a couple of years earlier, the cupboard wouldn't have been as bare and they'd have had a better shot at one of their dream coaches.

Exactly - this program was allowed to slowly rot away for 4 or 5 seasons - that isn't going to get fixed in 1.5 recruiting classes.

i definitely agree.  you have to give him time to get his recruits in the upperclass/leadership roles.  he'll be working with mack's qb recruit next year.  i doubt that shane steps in next year.  i don't know enough about kai to make a statement yet.

No reason whatsoever why this year's team could not win at least 6 games and it's not unrealistic at all to have expected to win 7 games this year. After all, this team could very well be 5-3 right now. Next year's expectations should be 8 wins.

What you can't have is regression. And that's what we have right now. That being said, I'll stand by what I've said before and that is that Charlie should definitely get a 3rd year. Unless we lose to Kansas. While I don't think that happens, if it does then Charlie should be done at Texas. Period.
