It's baffling to me

Oh look. More speculation and assumptions.
Do you work in the ravens organization? How do you know he's not an Xs and Os guy? Can't recruit? He coached in college for ten years before the nfl. It's kind of required to be a college coach. Has only won a Super Bowl??? The pinacle of the sport was reached but that's all he's done?

Look man, if you are unsure and want to discuss a candidate, let's do it. Just don't come off on the the guy like he's some rag tag coach with no skins on the wall. This guy May or may not kill it at Texas, but to make such assumptions with no legit knowledge of the guy is silly.
Totally agree with this.

Recruit: Hey coach, thanks for stopping by, it's a pleasure to meet you.

Harbaugh: It's a pleasure to meet you son, I see you have a nice stack of offer letters there on you table.

Recruit: Yes, yes I do. So why should I come to Texas, Coach?

Harbaugh: Do me a favor son, try on this ring and see how it fits.

Recruit: Wow, that ring is awesome coach, it's a little loose but I bet it will fit in a few more years.

Harbuagh: If you come to Texas it will.

Recruit: Where do I sign coach?

I personally feel you can't go wrong with either one. That said I feel Briles is the better fit out of the gates due to his current college experience and his ties to Texas HS. I would be happy with either, but I am wanting Saban or Fisher.

What the $#@! has Art Briles won? 1 Big XII championship?

What is that next to a Super Bowl? It's $#@!ing nothing.
Clearly you have your opinion and I have mine. When you choose to post in a more adult manner, we should revisit this topic. So far, you have called Mack Brown a POS, got warned by McPhaul, then called him something else derogatory only a few posts after. Now you feel like you can address me or any other board members like this? I'm not a Mod, but I'd say GTFO. Again, your opinion is yours to have. My issue is with how you address the board, mods, and coaches.

Not sure why people are down on Briles. 1) Does anyone remember how big of a joke Baylor was not very long ago? Briles has transformed a bottom feeder into a national contender. 2) Briles has the Texas roots for recruiting. 3) The downfall of Texas football over the past few years starts with QB play. Briles has shown the ability to develop and find the right QB's for his system. 4) Briles is well liked throughout the football community. I know money matters, but having relationships helps in getting top tier coordinators.

LOL. You mad.

Super Bowl >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Every accomplishment in Briles career multiplied by each other.

It isn't arguable.

I'm on record on several sites saying that I think Briles would do well at Texas.

That said, he's about 9th on the list of good coaches who would consider coming to Texas. Why would you settle for 9th when you have a chance at top 4?

Jim

Nick

Urban

John

John and Mack are the same guy
Except Mack was an all world recruiter coming out of UNC. John may have been in the college game but did not recruit at this level.

He is a CEO type coach and that is just not what we need right now.

Briles has built up 2 doormat programs with less talent. He has all the inroads to recruiting within the state. It hurts a conference foe.

Really no downside to Briles while Harbaugh is such an unknown at this level.

The powers that be should not be taking this kind of risk.
That's just incorrect

John Harbaugh demands excellence and accountability of everyone in his organization. He does not play favorites with players, you practice, get in shape, perform well or you will not play

He is a charismatic guy as well.

It's tru he will need help with recruiting, but the guy knows talent, I think he will, with a great staff be dynamite at recruiting

Most of these kids dream of going to the league, can you think of a better person to help them with that?

He would be a terrific hire. Our teams will be

1 in great shape

2 be tough with an edge

3 be well prepared each week

4 play with passion

This guy is a stud coach and could well turn into the next Pete Carroll

I think the guys disagreeing are not really understanding how different building a college program is from being an NFL head coach

Maybe I came across the wrong way about Harbaugh. I do believe he is a very good NFL head coach but that in itself does not qualify you for success in the college game.

When you have a head coach that specializes in offense(Briles, gundy, etc..) or defense (saban, muschamp, etc...) then they always have something to hang their hat on regardless of coordinaters that come and go.

I am not saying Harbaugh doesn't understand Xs & Os but he has never been a coordinater of Offense or Defense which means he will be a CEO style coach like Mack(even though Mack did have Coordinater positions).

Also in the NFL you have a GM that handles most personnel decisions. At the college level you have to be able to evaluate what a player can be as matures physically which is completely different then scouting talent in the NFL.

Once again let me reiterate that I believe John is a great NfL coach but he is far from a sure thing at Texas.

Briles on the other hand has proven he can win championships at any level he has coached at, and that he can build a program, and that he can recruit.

Is he presidential??? No

But he is a heck of a Football Coach.

Briles would be a ho-hum hire, would seem like we settled after Saban, Harbaugh's and Fisher. The media would report on it at halftime and it would be done.

A Saban or Harbaugh hire would take over NC coverage.

I'd be a little let down if Briles were hired. Did we really force out Mack for Briles???

For everyone that is pimping Briles, are you the same people who loved Patterson at TCU? Other than winning a Big XII title in a down year, which Baylor lost what was viewed as a "must" game in Stillwater prior to backing their way into it, what the HELL has he done.

Must be nice being a HC in Waco where everyone remembers your wins and dismisses losses b/c its Baylor. Texas should be able to do a lot better than Briles and John Harbaugh is a much better candidate than Art. At least JH has looked down the barrel of a gun and won a Super Bowl, but nah, he couldn't walk into a HS kids home and sway him to come to Texas.

Please tell me folks aren't buying this Briles BS garbage. Let him beat Central Florida tonight in a meaningless BCS game and he will be Knute Rockne.

Briles is a very good football coach with a good track record of moving down programs to respectability. What he has done at Baylor is amazing and worthy of everyone's respect but it would not have been possible if the University of Texas had a competent head football coach and OU had not been allowed to fall into mediocrity under Stoops. If Patterson has a clue, UT is about to have a more than competent head football coach and 2013 will be the one shot zenith of Baylor. Baylor's performance against OSU this season is an important reference point because it is part of a pattern of Brile's teams that flash offense greatness but seem to find a way of losing games that would push them to the top echelon of college football.

Briles is a good coach but he is smart enough to understand that he is not a cultural fit with UT or a media fit with the LHN. He would not accept an offer from UT and he might revel in turning it down. John Harbaugh is also a great coach with perhaps as close to an ideal profile for maximizing the on field performance of UT football and mastering the off field BMD and media requirements. John would own Art if he becomes head coach at UT.

My concern with Harbaugh is his ability to recruit. A Super Bowl ring alone isn't going to help him.

TF

Sorry but you are just wrong.

While I agree with some of your thoughts on Briles and UT

He would crawl here

I think you are really wrong about that. A. SB ring will put stars in the eyes of the recruits, and mom and dad with see dollar signs at the end of the rainbow

He WON the most recent Superbowl. That covers recruiting. He obviously is an outstanding coach. Briles has done nothing in comparison.
