And there's one final push being made for a splash OC but doesn't look optimistic.

DizzG, what's Higdon saying now? Is he "still sitting on the name"?

It seems possible that is where we are headed but I'm going to guess that their sources, like most it seems, are speculating based on not getting much info.

I swear Dizz has 3 monitors, is locked in a room, hitting F5 on 3 longhorn sites cross posting to each one what the latest news is. :)

Guess that eliminates Joker or Groh from WR coach.
Wickline/Watson as co-OCs doesn't eliminate the need for a WR coach. Joker could still be an option. Yes, he has the same position at UF but Muschamp is on the hot seat. Much more stable environment in Austin.

Doesn't eliminate the need, but I'm not sure either of those guys come in as just the WR coach. Could be wrong though.

i really hope we do something more proven than this. i am fine with taking a good risk, but this seems sketchy.

No disrespect to IT but they were also still saying Saban an hour after everyone else knew it was Strong. I will wait to hear from Strong.

All three major sites are seemingly leaning towards this being the case, which is very confusing b/c it's so bizarre. So bizarre that I think there is something NO ONE knows.

I personally think the OC position is being way over analyzed. If it indeed ends up being Wickline and Watson as Co-OC's I am perfectly fine with that. I would have rather had a splash hire, but at the end of the day I feel with the defensive staff that Charlie Strong is assembling the offense will be just fine.

Not trying to be nit-picky here, but I don't believe that to be exactly what was actually "reported" in JS's update this AM. I believe that anyone who wants to know what JS actually wrote could simply head over to IT, get a sub, and read for themselves. I obviously interpreted the update differently than you, but your thread title was accurate for a plausible scenario that JS mentioned. Based on the info that he has received, he does seem to believe that Wickline will serve as a co-OC as run game coordinator (and possible play caller responsibilities if they cant find the proper OC candidate) and one of the scenarios did confirm your thread title. I find it frustrating that all of the Longhorn sites seem to be on different pages, but I also feel very refreshed that Strong/Patterson have been able to run such a "tight ship" on these hires. It really lets me believe that the days of old are really in the past and that we finally have a coach that is more about being a football coach than a political panhandler to the BMD's and the media. With Wickline on staff, and with the current recruiting pedigrees of all the coaches we factually know that are on staff, I feel that we are going to be OK with the remaining hires...the ceiling can only be raised from my vantage point.

IT seems to think Wickline calling plays would only happen if something doesnt drop in the next 24-28 hours on another OC. They also thought Texas was still after someone but as with everyone else no one has a real name

I think IT has good info, but NO ONE seems to have a great source right now including Orangebloods, 247 etc. No one can get Higdon to budge either

Higdon says today contracts can be sticky to work through so maybe they are still trying to finalize something out but wont put the name out there

I'd agree on Groh, but as I said with Phillips its not exactly a stable situation at UF. Even though he'd probably get snatched up very quickly next offseason there is something to be said for job security.

Maybe you can explain the 5-Star RB, QB, WR & OL recruits who will flip when they find out Watson is the OC? How does Zip sound? That's a pretty low ceiling there in your vantage point, imo.

I sure to hope like hell he's 100% accurate and the only one who knows.

Why would a 5-star QB flip if we get a OC/QB coach who many recruits will see just produced a top NFL draft pick? You can't buy marketing like that.

Why would a 5-Star RB flip when we just got a new RB coach that has worked and been successful at all levels?

Why would a 5-Star OL flip when we just got one of, if not the, best OL coach?

WR? Ok the jury is still out there.

We view Watson in a WHOLE different viewpoint than most recruits.

Now personally I am hoping we get one of the others that have been mentioned lately or a big name we have not heard. However saying that the sky is going to fall if it is Watson or Watson/Wickline is a bit more panic than logic.

247 just posted that Riley is/has not been a candidate.

And Lotushorn still standing firm that Watson is in play to go to the Raven's as an assistant coach.
