Why put out for Saban but cut Morris off? If the BMDs were willing to do what ever it takes to get Saban (he who's ability to win is unquestioned), why, when we have a noted great defensive mind for our coach, are they not willing to do what we know it takes to supplement the defense with the most notable offensive coordinator out there? I hear the justification that it is just too much money for the buyout, too little return for short time he would be here, etc. Has anyone talked to him about these concerns? If he is really interested in coming here then there ought to be some terms under which it could all happen.
He wants to come home, succeed in a situation where he gets all the credit, be well paid, be well incentivised for each level of success, and then land a top tier HC position..
Texas wants success and a long enough commitment to justify the up front expense. Texas needs to decide what they are willing to pay to get the success they wantand how many years are required to get the ROI they expect.Once that is known the deal can start being worked out. The question is not money, it's how long Morris is willing to guarantee Texas before he starts entertaining HC offers vs. how long Texas requires exclusive rights. The guarantee could be in the form of an outrageous buyout no matter what for that number of years, with the exclusive rights so secured by that buyout being given up after that number of years to any position he secures paying more in the NFL or a college head coaching position.
The terms can always be worked out. The question is what each side has to have and what are they willing to give up to get it. Is there any common ground?
