Instanalysis - Game 2

You know, I think pretty much every Texas fan has been in denial in regards to just how much of an effect that the personnel losses on offense after last week had on the whole team.

Blaming Watson & playcalling is the easy way out, imo.
Everything could have been better in all aspects of the game last night. Playcalling was one of many issues. The defense doesn't get a pass either. Blame goes all around here.

It was definitely a team and coaching loss. I also think Watson's play calling was pretty bad.

The playbook was nowhere near open last night - for obvious reasons. Next game Swoopes will get a little more leeway in the passing game.

I don't think Watson read the article on how to prepare the second string QB. We were very successful in shotgun and quick throws to the receivers. We drove from our side to their side using that strategy, then on 3rd and 3 we run up the middle and stall. The personnel was executing the quick throws, the play calling was bad. IMO

When your offense has demonstrated that it cannot execute your primary game plan then you have to make changes. There was absolutely no reason to not take advantage of swoops running ability in the second half. And why not throw the ball more downfield. Could things have been any worse? Seven points against an average college defense.

It's difficult to judge the playcalling when the personnel on the field isn't able to execute it.
People, read this again and again.

This sums up it up in one nice and neat sentence.

The lack of talent on offense is mind-boggling for THE University of Texas.

And there is no excuse for that. Mack left things in an absolute mess.

If we used a spread offense we would have scored 21 points or more. You can't run what we did with a weak OL. Had we used a true zone read we would have scored more than we did. I don't think we ran a zone read. It was a called zone hand-off. Several times Swoopes should have pulled the ball and kept it. Either he sucks at reading the zone read or Watson was calling a zone dive. It didn't look like a read.
