One of my best friends dinged up his calf playing soccer earlier this week, and went in to have it looked at/evaluated today. He just texted me that David Ash and Jake Oliver were both in the waiting room with him. Ash with a minor ankle issue (that he said didn't look serious at all) and Oliver with a dislocated elbow. Just thought I'd share.

Texas QB David Ash has a fracture in his left foot and will miss the rest of spring practice. He's expected to be back by fall camp. Per Longhorn Network.

Just a Jones Fracture based on Twitter. Had one in high school. The injury isn't that bad, it's just a fracture at the base of the small toe. In high school it took me I think 4 weeks to recovery. I think the general recovery time is like 4 to 7 weeks.

This can actually be a bad deal. Some Jones fractures don't heal well, at times poor blood flow to the site hinders the healing process. Wishing Ash the best, I feel he can be a good QB if healthy.

You are correct, but I think that's the case with almost every fracture. I'm no doctor, just going off what I was told when I had my injury. There's always chance a fracture doesn't heal correctly. That's really the only risk. If it's just a normal Jones Fracture, he should be ready well before fall practices. If it fails to heal properly, there will be a bigger problem. Actually when I had mine I really wasn't in pain, it felt more like a sprain.

Dealing with rehab of the foot can be a different scenario than a fx to a mid-shaft long bone. The foot takes a lot of bio mechanical stress and must absorb force with high octane sports specific motions. This can result in re injury if the fx doesn't respond well. I'll stop being a buzz kill now! Most heal well, just pointing out that with athletes it can be difficult getting back from a foot injury. I hope all goes well with his surgery and recovery much like your injury did!

I like the information. I was just posting about my injury, I'm curious to hear from someone that actually knows what they are talking about. Do you think Ash felt pain? He must have felt some type of discomfort to get it examined. Like I said, when I had my injury in high school I had no clue I even had a broken foot. I played an entire basketball game on it. It felt different, but like I said there really wasn't pain.

I am a physical therapist and have treated these injuries. The injuries are commonly caused by an inward ankle sprain in which excessive force is applied to the base of the little toe. At times a small portion of bone is fractured and must be fixated with a screw. Smaller bones have a lower blood supply than the much larger bones of the leg, and can heal much slower. Placing too much weight on such an injury will impede healing, but ww will assume the orthopedic staff for the Horns is top notch! Repeat x-rays over weeks will tell the MD how things are healing, and will dictate the lifting of weight bearing restrictions and returning to running and sports specific activity. The folks I have worked with did have pain with their injuries, some say they felt/heard a pop at the time of the injury. Of course each injury and person are different, and because you are a hornsports member you have the ability to endure enormous levels of pain! We hornsports members are pretty damn tough aren't we! Let's not forget smart and good looking as well. Thanks for initiating the discussion, I appreciate your info!
