the anti strong camp to me is almost as strange as the Mora haters. I just dont get it. I still dont buy Strong is the guy but he's really good coach and there are def some rumors of him coming with a big staff

I'd love to get on board with Strong, and there are some definite pluses. OTOH, are you concerned at all with some suggestions that he lacks organization and, perhaps, tends to have trouble executing decisions during highly tense game moments? I'm not saying these are true, but I've heard from more than one source on these, especially the disorganization aspect. If he's that way at Louisville, far more troubling that would be at Texas.

He also received a master's degree and education specialist degree from the University of Florida. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.

In 1999, Strong joined the South Carolina Gamecocks as defensive coordinator. His stifling defenses and charismatic personality created buzz that he would be possibly the first black head coach in the SEC, but job offers were slim. Sylvester Croom eventually broke the color barrier in the SEC coaching ranks.

Strong was hired as defensive coordinator for the Florida Gators before the 2003 season. Florida head coach Ron Zook was fired midway through the Gators' 2004 season, but continued to coach until the bowl game; Strong served as interim coach of the Gators for one game, the December 2004 Peach Bowl. Florida lost the game, 27–10, to Miami. When Urban Meyer was hired as Florida's head coach, Strong was the only assistant coach retained from Zook's staff.

In a January 2009 interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Strong expressed his belief that race played a large part in the reason that he hadn't been offered a head coaching job at that point. Strong, whose wife is white, especially cited prospective employers' discomfort with his interracial relationship.

the race card is really a tired tactic. If anything, all else equal, I'd prefer a black guy for a number of reasons. But, far, far more important, of course, is making the optimal hire. If he's black, white, or other, that is far down the list

I'm not really impressed by Strong.
I don't like the Offensive numbers they've put up the last two years with Bridgewater at QB, with such a top QB they should have been able to move the ball a lot more than that against the level of competition they've faced.

Also I don't think he's that great a recruiter, so that's an issue I have with the current SEC / A&M Landscape that the new coach is inheriting.

I don't think he's terrible, but I definitely think it's bleh - and I'd much rather go with a Malzahn and take a chance on him because of this Offensive X's and O's accumen that he brings / or the risky hire of Gruden that would be a giant splash and get us a ton of positive momentum that I don't think a Strong hire would do.

All that being said - whom are the staff members he thinks he could bring? Yes that could be an uptick for him, but all I've seen is rumors of a great staff, I haven't seen any big names.

#25 in the nation in scoring O (this coupled with the #2 scoring D in the nation)

#2 in 3rd down conversions

66% TD scoring in the red zone . . .really good

#2 in the nation for turnovers lost. . .these guys don't beat themselves. . .

#2 in TOP as well . . ..granted. . an often misleading stat but makes sense a defensive coach would like a team that moves the chains and ties up clock yet Louisville was also an excellent scoring team. . .

For some reason I cannot find 2012 stats but not sure what is not to like about their O. . .especially when you couple it with their D. . .

If I went and dug up Lombardi people on these internet sites would whine about him, too. There's no coach that's going to please everyone and Strong wouldn't be a bad choice at all.

You have to consider that he's at Louisville? You can't compare a program like that to a Texas or any other of the football powerhouse schools. Being at Texas, AL, Florida etc automatically gets you through the door. Huge difference you say Louisville you think basketball...

Look, no coach goes undefeated nowawdays for 4 years straight. ie: Saban. Lost to some teams he shouldn't have. Same as Strong.

However, if we don't get Saban or Fisher, I'm good with Charlie Strong.

Hearing about how Strong being unorganized has me very concerned about his ability to be the HC at Texas. I just cannot get excited about him as HC. He has done reasonably well, so who knows maybe he will kill it here. Just not excited at all if it is Strong.

If you go by that mentality then Saban would have never moved on from Michigan State.

Can't go wrong with Saban, Fisher or Strong. Assuming these are the top three finalists. Imagine what kind of staff each one could assemble.
