I may be totally wrong, but I think there is a lot out there flying around right now and some it is likely smoke and cover.

I think Powers being in "trouble" tomorrow at the BOR meeting could be a shot across the bow for Powers to stay in line and not try to play hardball on the Mack situation himself, but also possibly give Powers cover to make the tough decisions re Mack being he has far bigger things to deal with than trying to save a friend

I believe Mack wants more money and a better package to step down. Mcphaul and Jesus are both reporting that. I'm sure Mack did have some intention of dragging this out, and not wanting UT to hire Saban. I would bet money on Mack's stepping down being leaked out yesterday and being blown up into a major national sports story was partly to make it clear to Mack this will not drag on. Mack stepping down was the lead story on ESPN, Fox Sports, etc. Radio and TV. just about every major college writer was talking about it on twitter and different radio programs yesterday afternoon and how how this is expected to be finalized at the end of this week.

Mack cant come back from that. He's done rather its bloody or not

Mack does have some leverage as he does not want Saban to follow him, and Texas wants to hire Saban. Its been reported today the meeting yesterday with Bill Powers and Nick Saban went very well - to a degree Powers has blessed Patterson going forward to make a hire.

I think the Mack situation will be final by the Banquet. I just dont see anyway Mack is standing up there on stage and going though that whole program with a)the major national sports headline story out there his career at Texas is over B) missing the chance to get celebrated and praised like he would want

agree good or bad its coming to a end..as long as mack isnt returning its all good for me saban or not!..although i believe saban is coming.

Agree completely.

I don't think this gets leaked to Chip unless the BMD's have their guy lined up. And considering all the other guys being mentioned are unavailable until nearly January that means that they either feel extremely confident in Saban or Saban has told them to go ahead. The thing about it is the silence coming from the Saban side. Where have the Sexton comments denying? Or the Bama comments denying? The lack of ANYTHING is pretty telling.

Maybe Saban decides against it. Maybe Mack's hail mary right now will be enough for Saban to change his mind. You never know. But either way, I think we are better off today than we were yesterday morning when Mack was still planning to be the coach in 2014.

This will play out in the next 24-48 hrs. Expect a official statement from the University that Mack is retiring.

Spot on, Dizz. This will all be over shortly and end the way we all want it to. This all part of high stakes Texas Hold'Em. It will come to a conclusion that that everyone will be happy with.

Mack knows that if he pushes hard enough that the powers at be will not ruin a shot at Saban fighting Mack on his buyout. I am under the impression we are under a time constraint window before the Saban option goes away. The longer he waits the more he agitates his situation at Bama. You can't continue to just ignore all the smoke. My gut tells me that the buyout gets done within 24 hours. That is the piece holding everything from rapidly progressing. It'll get done. I could only imagine the number of folks working on this..

I agree completely. I find it had to believe that this isn't done by the time of the banquet on Friday.

Sorry im behind on this, but are we positive that Powers met with Saban? I have not heard anything about this meeting...

Would you accept the first severance offer you received from an employer? I hope not. Conversely, if your an employer is your first offer your final offer. Doubtful.

This will get settled quickly.

Will be nice to talk football next week. Cause you know what.....I am getting wore out! by all this other STUFF.

HOOK'EM

I'm new to this board, but like what I see so far. McPhaul's leads are really close to those that my friend's "insider" dad (for what it's worth) has been giving me, which makes me trust what he has to say.

It's tough to see Mack dragging this out because I've looked up to the man since before I came to UT. However, I'm fed up with him and frustrated with the fact that I'm a member of the 2014 grad class that hasn't seen real Texas football. This needs to end sooner rather than later so that Mack doesn't tarnish his name in the end. Bring on Saban!

My concern is that Mack is apparently trying to lobby for a position similar to what Royal once had, as assistant to the president or some such.

Saban will not come if Mack is going to be in a position to meddle.
