I feel sick

It may be a window dressing "hire/being considered for hire" prior to the coaches convention.

http://www.afca.com/article/article.php?id=1160

Much easier for Watson to go to the convention as the OC of Texas and let the word out that he's "wanting to stay in the upper midwest" or any other reason under the sun. It makes it much easier for him to obtain employment and much easier for an AD to hire him.

This stuff goes on all the time.

IF Strong can't get anyone better then Watson is the fallback OC.

Steve, Your right, Jesus has been a great source of information. Most of the people that read his work, appreciate him.
I have nothing but respect for Jesus. I hate it when people mock IT and HornSports for the Saban information. Even a rational Bama fan would have to admit that there was plenty of truth in what was reported. I don't want it to seem like I don't appreciate his work or yours. You guys put it all out there for us while Bobby waited until the day before Saban signed his extension before he even mentioned Saban and never spoke of him again. I also know that Jesus's son Zach had surgery on Friday and Jesus was still hard at work. When I wrote that IT would be the last to know, I wasn't being critical of IT. All the sites are good at certain things and this is something that 247 would find out first. That's my line of thinking anyway

Watson has been incredibly average for his long career. This would be a pathetic hire. We would be settling for a beat up ford pinto when we could get a Bently.

Chill people.....
Watson has grown since he left Nebraska. Is he perfect? No, but dont jump off the wagon already, especially if Coach Strong keeps Wyatt and Porter. Even if he doesnt, I trust the man to run his team and win ballgames.

Hopefully you are right.

I would not be at all surprised if Strong and Watson had discussed the OC job. I would be surprised if Strong had already decided to give Watson the job without even looking at other candidates. Reeks of a comfort hire and would go completely against what Strong said he wants the offense to look like, unless he thinks Watson is the guy to run this up-tempo O that can throw it around while also being able to run the ball.

I'd be surprised if Watson was anything but a fallback option if Strong doesn't feel like the other candidates would be good fits with him.

I'd even prefer Strong look at some of the WAC/MAC coaches before hiring Watson. There always seems to be a couple of up and coming offensive minds in those conferences.

shouldnt be hired for his antics in the 09 CC when he taunted Colt. 70-3, he was the OC. he is nebraskas gd. him being hired is regressing. think this through...

you play offense in the State of Texas

you are a being recruited

sumlin come to your house

briles comes to your house

KK comes to your house

gundy comes to your house

strong/watson walk in the door...

good luck recruiting against that.

The primary concern (and thank God it is) should be the defense. Watson (or someone) can run an offense with all the talent available in Texas. It will be fine.

You bring up 70-3. That defense destroyed a lot of people that year.

The 09 antics. Meh. Im not going to turn my back on the guy over that. I wouldnt have shunned Art Briles for doing what he did in the voting to Texas and all the mess he talks.

ha briles. our own coach did not vote us #1. however, if briles would have voted us #1 it wouldnt have made a difference were we were ranked.

his actions with colt were unprofessional. that is is the type of guy who can not control his emotions. i dont trust him to make the right calls with 1:20 on the clock to march us down and win a NC. no composure show to one of the all-time greats at Texas. i do not forgive him. this isn't about support. this is about continued comfort and cronyism that has allowed our football program to become stale.

if you can make the argument that shawn watson is the best OC hire with an open check book i will listen. i will will wait for the official statement before going scorched earth.

For you guys that wanted Saban (yes me too) he's not a spread offense, more pro.

Burton is reporting that Strong will bring Watson with him as his OC. OB is reporting that they heard Strong and Watson spoke about the job today.
We need Watson to replace Strong or be hired by someone in the NFL. Please. What a huge letdown he would be as the OC.
What's wrong with Watson??

most coaches making a move are going to want some guys with him they feel comfortable with and have confidence in. Its rare a coach takes a job and hires a full staff of guys he has no connection too or hasnt worked with

I dont have any issue with the guys he's bringing from UL so far.

I just will need to see a press conference for watson before I believe it. I will give strong and his staff a FULL chance once the team hits the field, but it just doesnt make sense to me he would bring a guy who doesnt run the spread head said he wants...and one UL fans wanted fired even in a 11-1 season. There has to be some other reason he spoke to him today IMO

I had a thought today that maybe Strong is leaning on comfort instead of utilizing his resources. What say you? Do you think he is trying to keep in the comfort zone rather than be vulnerable and reach out to big time coaches? Just a thought I had today.
