In the EXPECTATIONS FOR NEXT SEASON thread I mentioned that I will reserve judgement until I see what he puts on the field next season.

This isn't a good start.

Under Mack, I always felt like we were handcuffing ourselves. If the new guy starts off doing the same, he's gonna find out just how impatient Texas fans are at this point in time.

"Don't over react guys. It isn't a done deal. My feelings are that Charlie is loyal, and he did WONDERS with Bridgewater. However, I also feel that people at Texas, including Patterson are wary of the hire. So they will look to address that TOMORROW. Today was about Texas assistants and Charlie gathering support staff."

Burton is reporting that Strong will bring Watson with him as his OC. OB is reporting that they heard Strong and Watson spoke about the job.

I just don't see how a Strong can make that choice, and where's his "support staff" to tell him how big of a mistake that'd be.

Watson as OC will be total flop in the Big 12, and cost us Texas recruits. This would be a huge blow to my confidence going into next season.

Please please tell me this isn't true. Alarm bells are ringing.

If and when he's announced I will wonder why but until then I'm not assuming anything is some done deal. If you want to run the spread you pick someone else.

I wonder if Todd Dodge has put a call in to the Football offices and offered his services. HS coach with prolific offenses and Texas recruiting ties, not to mention he's a letterman. Doesn't mean I want him, but curious if he's put his name in.

Watson has grown since he left Nebraska. Is he perfect? No, but dont jump off the wagon already, especially if Coach Strong keeps Wyatt and Porter. Even if he doesnt, I trust the man to run his team and win ballgames.

Sure would like to have him around. Don't know if he'd be a good OC hire right now, but would love to have him somewhere on the offensive staff. Recruiting would be a plus and if we are successful and the OC gets a gig elsewhere he could move in at that point.

Watson's O at the Ville probably fits our personnel better than, say, a Chad Morris. It's going to take a couple of years before we can be a Baylor type O.

Im really not concerned about it, especially when most of the top guys are not going to consider lateral moves, especially with some prime jobs (Michigan, Nebraska, Florida) all probably coming open next season.

I don't think it's the worst hire in the world but he isn't right for Texas. I would trust Strong on this.
