If Darryl K Royal had decided, after a couple years of retirement, to return to Texas and again lead the football program. What would you think if the UT Board said "no thanks?"

Just curious . . .

I would ask them to all go get tested for drugs or aggey blood .

I think the powers that be would say no and that they have moved on.

After a 5-5 season, the administration AND the fan base were grumbling.  DKR would have been persona non grata if he had tried to return.  You can't fix stupidity.  Our fanbase and admin, second only to aggy's, were spoiled and entitled.

The reason I ask is there has been a recent effort to bring Dennis Alexander back to Daingerfield, where he took the Tigers to state titles in the 80s.

Tons of people sent emails, letters, phone calls and circulated a petition to bring him back.

One of the reasons the public began this is the recent trend of kids transferring out of the district and to nearby schools due to the issues in the athletic dept and school. Alexander was seen as one who would straighten things out.

The superintendent acted unusual in many respects. She formed a search committee instead of the board doing that as they have in the past. That committee came up with three candidate finalists (Alexander was one of them). Before those finalists would be presented to the board, the superintendent arbitrarily eliminated Alexander from the list. Apparently, to remove that choice from a board that was seen as 5-2 going in as favoring DA.

So now, an assistant from the previous staff who many say was instrumental in the previous HC leaving (shennanigans), is now the HC. The previous HC took an OC position at Pearland.

So thats why I asked. Its probably a bad comparison (DKR-DA) anyway.

By the way, yes, rehiring a legendary coach is something thats been done before.

Plano HC Tom Kimbrough took the job at Henderson after years of success at Plano. However, Plano welcomed Kimbrough back and now his name sits at the top of the stadium there.

GA Moore had three different coaching stints at Pilot Point – and two different coaching stints at Celina.
