Does he have a track record of success recruiting FL?

If so, yes. Plus, he worked for CFS before so there's obviously a comfort level there.

He can recruit very well. I have always thought, if you are a good recruiter it doesn't matter where you go you will still be a good recruiter.

My initial thought again is why didn't Strong bring him to Texas in the first place if he was that good? Just thinking.....

I think it is an obvious comfort hire, which I am fine with.

Strong probably went with Les initially to shake things up a bit and bring someone with a Texas background. However it sounds like personalities clashed too much, so now may he goes back to his comfort zone a bit.

My concern is Les wanted or felt we needed to spread things out and go to a more wide open offense and Charlie wants to just be ball control 3 yds and a cloud of dust, and hope the defense wins the game. If that IS the case we are screwed, because TCU found out really quick that that shit don't work in the Big 12.

It could be that Charlie wanted the Texas ties to get things going, and now feels he needs to go with someone new and maybe better.

If you look at the Lousiville stats you will see that Strong was anything but a "3 yds and cloud of dust" guy. They averaged over 300 yds passing in is last year and around 150 tds rushing.

Does he want ball control vs up tempo? Sure, but he also had no problem going up tempo when needed.

The difference, was he had a decent OL and a great QB.

Hard to do anything when you are not even good at those two positions.

Don't be concerned about that. Charlie doesn't want three yards and a cloud. Actually the offense will be different next year. The fans should/will be much happier. Not Oregon happy, but better then this year.

How about the Georgia Tech WR coach? They are producing NFL caliber WRs even though running triple option offense.

Yeah that's actually really impressive what he does, sfgirl. Georgia tech gets big receivers who naturally can catch but teaches them routes and how to block. Obviously blocking is huge in their offense. Two things kids don't learn in high school that will get them to next level is route running and blocking. I believe that's what makes a good we coach. Teaching them those things. Most kids can either catch are they cant by the time they get to college.

We need a recruiter for the Houston and East Texas area, but we also need quality position coaches who can develop players once they get here. If he fills the bill then that is great.
