How Darell Scott makes me cautious of all this

Once upon a time there was a running back named Darrell Scott. A 5 star who you could see winning heismans and national championships. Fresh off the ouch from the Perrilloux debacle I dove full on into the Scott recruitment. I loved everything about the way this kid ran (I still believe he had star quality but a 10 cent head). Insiders said done deal (and it was) and then the heartbreak of his decision. I was kinda depressed and I realized how retarded it was to wrap my happiness up in a high school kid. I've followed recruiting since then, but have become way less invested.

I realized today I haven't felt this way about a story since then. I try but I'm having a hard time not getting wrapped up in the saban story. Right now it sounds too good to be true and the Scott and Lyin Ryan recruitments along with being a fan of the buffalo bills and Texas Rangers has conditioned me to expect disappointment. I'm not doubting McPhaul or anyone else, I'm just trying not to be Charlie Brown kicking the football.

Fingers are crossed and I hope we get some resolution soon.

Absolutely. It's hard because these kinds of things are fluid and our insiders are only getting the perspective of the people they know that want these things for UT also, so their opinion is sometimes clouded with optimism.

Actually let's give credit where credit is due.

jhablinski was the only poster that stated that the Darrell Scott deal was not going to happen and he got BLASTED for it. I remember because I was one of the idiots that blasted him.

You never know, do you?

Excellent post, 40AF. And props to you on calling the Ennis-Poteet outcome. You were right on.

You have to consider, also, that in recruiting, you're dealing with the emotions of an 18 yr old. Those can change from day to day. If there's smoke, the fire might be out before you find the source of the smoke.

A 60 yr old man is quite different. He makes calculated moves and measures all things. If there's smoke, there's fire.

I was the one with the main info to ketch as well at utman from katy...I kept jason and geoff in touch with most of the info on DS...it was a done deal..trust me...theirs pics of DS with the tie and shirt he was to wear for the announcment in his livingroom with MA, BK and Mack...

DS was wearing a longhorn jersey he made with his last name a week before the announcment and then it all went to shitz...mom and CU BMD stepped in

But Saban didn't sign the extension today, so I'm saying we have a chance!

Yeah but before that Cujo, and Iceman both had it as a done deal. Suchomel even said he had told the Texas coaches he was coming and had showed them the shirt and burnt orange tie picked out for the announcement. He then went into hiding and re-emerged Colorado.

To be clear, I'm not saying I doubt anyone or even that I don't think we are going to get this done, I'm just conditioned to expect disappointment and I found myself thinking about how wrapped up in this story I am.

forgot about iceman...but yes..iceman's connection was also very good on that one...but DS was as shady as one could get...

a bank cashier was able to afford her home payment back in cali and a downtown apartment in boulder plus living expenses???

Recruiting and coaches are hard to figure. I have seen many a recruit be firm one day and change his mind the next.

Since you are a Ranger fan, have you heard of Eddie Stanky? He signed on as Ranger manager, managed one game and quit. Coaches/Managers change their mind as well.

I file this away when I read rumors or inside stuff. Even is completely true, it is a snapshot in time, and is subject to change.
