#25/nr Texas (14-8, 3-6 Big 12) at Kansas State (12-11, 5-5 Big 12)

  • Saturday, February 7, 2015 – 3:00PM (CST)
  • Bramlage Coliseum - Manhattan, Kansas
  • The game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
PREDICTION

The Wildcats started hot in conference play but have since cooled off. Marcus Foster was suspended against Texas Tech and it is possible that he will be suspended for the game against Texas as well. If that is the case, Texas must take advantage and use this game to get back on track. Since the Horns are not protecting home court, they need to win games like this on the road.

Expect Texas to start the game slow and not score many points. If Marcus Foster is out, I expect Kansas State will do the same. This should be a low scoring game that I believe Texas ends up losing.

Kansas State 59 - Texas 54

KANSAS STATE SERIES INFO

  • K-State leads the all-time series, 17-11.

  • Last meeting (February 8, 2014; Manhattan) – K-State 74 – Texas 57.

  • The Longhorns are 10-11 against K-State during the Rick Barnes era.

TEXAS NOTES

  • Texas leads the nation in blocked shots per game (7.7 bpg). The Horns have blocked at least eight shots in 13 of their first 22 contests.

  • Sophomore guard Isaiah Taylor is averaging 17.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game over the last five contests entering Saturday's game in Manhattan.

  • In the overtime loss to Oklahoma State, both Isaiah Taylor (43) and Damarcus Holland (42) played more than 40 minutes.

KANSAS STATE NOTES

  • K-State is averaging 71.2 points in 12 wins (51% shooting, including 42% from 3-point range). By contrast, KSU averages 57.5 points in their 10 losses (38% shooting, including 29% from 3-point range).

  • 3 players average scoring in double figures (Marcus Foster, Nino Williams and Thomas Gipson), and 9 players have had at least one double-digit scoring game this season.

  • The team has an assist on 62% (2nd in the Big 12) of field goals.

  • 16 of 22 games have been decided by 10 points or less, including 8 by 5 points or less.

  • Marcus Foster leads the Wildcats in 8 offensive categories, including scoring (14.0 ppg.), field goals (98), field goals attempted (234),

  • 3-point field goals (54), 3-point field goals attempted (136), double-digit scoring games (18), 20-point games (4) and minutes (29.2).

  • K-State ranks in the Top 35 nationally in free throw attempts (532/24th) and free throws made (359/31st).

Nobody wants to make the tournament this year. The NCAA selection committee is going to have a hell of a job this year. There's about 15 teams ahead of the pack and then a mess.

KSU confirmed that Foster & Harris are still suspended. It was probable but not definite yesterday.

With Foster out, this is a game that Texas needs to win.
