Texas QB commits march on in playoffs

Texas High School Football's game of musical chairs, aka playoffs, saw several Texas commits end their season. Seven still remain in the hunt, however, and the good news is that two of those are QUARTERBACKS!

Shane Buechele and his Vikings will face off with Mansfield this week in what could be Buechele's stiffest test yet. Mansfield has above-average talent in their secondary and will be looking to shut him down.

Sam Ehlinger led his Chaps to a 28-3 win over the Woodlands. The 28 points were the most surrendered by the Woodlands' defense all season. Ehlinger accounted for 4 touchdowns in the win. Ehlinger will be playing in Waco this weekend for those who might live nearby.

Elsewhere, look for #1 Allen to have their hands full with Arlington Martin this weekend at AT&T Stadium. DeSoto gave Allen fits last week with their speed and I expect Martin to present similar problems for the Eagles.

In East Texas, one of the better games will be the Gilmer-Center affair, set for Tyler's Rose Stadium on Friday. Center beat several teams during the regular season that are still in the playoffs right now.  Mineola and White Oak could be headed for a rematch of an earlier district showdown which Mineola won 28-13. It's always tough to beat a team twice in a season. Both are favored in their games this week and if that holds true, will face off in the regional final the following week.

#3 Franklin will take on traditional power Newton Friday in Henderson. If Franklin is legit, we'll find out Friday night.

In South Texas, ranked Shiner and Refugio appear to be on a collision course which would be a rematch of a regular season battle which ended in a 30-19 Shiner victory (played at Refugio). Again, it's always tough to beat a team twice in a season.

In West Texas, Amarillo Tascosa turned some heads when they knocked off Odessa Permian last weekend. Brock and Wall, both undefeated and ranked, will square off in Abilene Shotwell Stadium Friday night. The winner gets the survivor of the Muleshoe vs Shallowater game which is expected to be a close one.

Royse City is a popular venue for playoff football each year. Nice stadium, good size, abundant parking and away from the Metroplex but only by a half hour or so. This week, #10 Liberty-Eylau will take on it's biggest test since opening against Gilmer when they come to Royse City to face Kaufman. Kaufman has 1 loss and an impressive resume this year. Over at SMU's Ford Stadium playing will be undefeated Kennedale taking on ranked Argyle. Talent and speed vs precision and discipline.

This is when it gets good, folks. Looking for an entertaining evening? Take in some playoff football!

All 4 schools in the 2A Div 1 Region 4 semi finals are from District 15. Heck of a district the past 2 years. Appears it will change next year with realignment.

Yea, one of the toughest for sure. Realignment will end some good things and create some good things. IMO, Refugio needed to be in a district like this. So many years they'd breeze through the region 4 and then hit a buzz saw when they met region 2.

Daingerfield will drop once again, this time to class 3A Div II. . . To put that into perspective, when I played there in 1982 we were a 4A school (today's 5A).

Hughes Springs, about five miles east of Daingerfield, will move to 3A Div I despite not being as large as Daingerfield (town-wise). Daingerfield's population has declined since the paralyzing of Welsh Power Plant (coal powered electric plant) by the Obama war on coal. Today's population there has less than half the households with school aged kids.

Just noticed your imploding Kyle field header ScoBro1, solid work. Now, just add a dumpster fire in the parking lot.
