Texas target Lil’ Jordan Humphrey figures to play a key role in Southlake Carroll’s showdown with powerful Cedar Hill.
Carroll, Cedar Hill meet in early round matchup
It’s rare, in such an expanded playoff format, to find great match ups in the early rounds. This year, however, fans get an early dose of late round playoff atmosphere when 8-2 Southlake Carroll hosts 9-1 Cedar Hill. Both teams finished second in their respective districts but are both known to put together successful playoff runs no matter what the records and standings say.
Southlake Carroll’s two losses came to respectable foes, dropping the opener to Texas commit Sam Ehlinger and Austin Westlake and then later falling by two to #3 Euless Trinity. Among SLC’s quality wins were perennial power Tulsa Union (on the road), Coppell, and Abilene.
Cedar Hill hasn’t been it’s usual overpowering self this year. That said, they have quality wins over Skyline, Coppell, DeSoto and South Grand Prairie. Their only loss came two weeks ago against district champ Mansfield.
Their one common opponent – Coppell. SLC beat the Cowboys 38-37 at Coppell. Cedar Hill beat Coppell 36-21 at Cedar Hill.
Texas commit and SLC DB Obi Eboh has been AWOL from game stats because teams have been avoiding him like the plague. Expect that to change this week as Cedar Hill will test the whole field in their passing game, perhaps giving Eboh some rare opportunities at the same time. We could and should see a face off between Eboh and Texas target, Cedar Hill WR Cameron Buckley during this game.
I expect Texas target Lil’ Jordan Humphrey to be a big difference maker in this game. IMO, he’s a must-have for Texas. He can do so many things – well. Humphrey has rushed for 1,063 yards during the regular season and averages 7.13 ypc. He rushed for 12 TDs. He’s equally lethal as a receiver, catching 51 passes for 760 yards, averaging 15 yards per catch and caught 7 TD passes. He even has a 40-yard completion this season, so he can pass, too.
I like Southlake Carroll to pull the upset, having home field advantage and a couple of big play makers that I think will show up big time. Cedar Hill will not roll over so I expect a high scoring affair.

Another good game to catch would be the Coppell-DeSoto game Friday at 7:30 p.m. in DeSoto. Both are proud programs that have come on hard times this year. Coppell finished 6-4 while DeSoto sank to 5-5 after several years at the top of the football world. Either team could hit a late season stride and make a deep run.

Former Carter High football player sues makers of new movie
A former football player whose life story is at the center of the new Carter High movie has sued the movie’s writer and executive producer for more than $1 million in damages.
Gary Edwards, whose disputed algebra grade cost the 1988 Carter High School team its state championship and who took part in a notorious string of robberies that brought shame on the community, filed suit last week in Dallas County.
Edwards claims that he originally tried to turn his story into a movie and did not give the creators of Carter High consent to use his name and likeness because he was still trying to get his own movie deal.
He also objects to how he is portrayed in the movie, saying in the suit that the depiction is “not accurate†and “degrading.â€
He sued Muhammad and former Dallas Cowboy Greg Ellis’ production company, Play Now Enterprise, alleging misappropriation and theft.
Carter High hit theaters in Dallas Oct. 30.
