High School Football Week 1

A lot of people saying Shawn Robinson looked pretty bad tonight.

Wonder if that's Allen's defense or maybe Robinson is slightly overrated?

Close friend of mine has a son playing for Cedar Park. They're ranked #2 in the state in 5A and beat #1 Aledo tonight 31-14.

They scrimmaged Austin Westlake and his feedback to me on Sam Ehlinger was remarkable. Said Ehlinger is the best high school quarterback he's ever seen. He said that Westlake pretty much does what it wants offensively because Ehlinger is so accurate throwing and can run. Said there's just not words to describe how good he is.

A bit surprising for me since he and I have watched a few together through the years.

Texas needs to get their recruiting hat on and get over to Cedar Park. Sophomore QB there named Mak Sexton. He took apart Aledo's defense with precision passing and smart runs. Has been the talk of Cedar Park since he began football at age 7. Of the Ehlinger mold.

Cameron Yoe beat Waco Connally 63 - 14.  The start to their fourth straight State Championship??????

A little insight to the Liberty Hill / LaGrange game last night. I coached a lot of the current LH Panthers when they were in grade school (my son also played) before we moved to St. Louis and I still talk to a lot of them. Anyway, I talked with one of them this morning and he couldn't stop talking about Dobbins. He said he is the strongest, fastest, most elusive RB they've (he's) ever seen. He said he had at least 300yds rushing on them last night. They stacked the line, they tried to key in on him, but nothing worked.

I've never seen Dobbins play, but the way this kid talked about him made me think he might be one of those special RBs. Texas needs to go all in on this one. Just a little up close look at Dobbins through a player's eyes.

The road doesn't get any easier for formerly #1 Aledo. After being beat 31-13 by #2 Cedar Park Friday night, they now will turn around and host Noxubee County (Mississippi), that state's reigning class 4A state champion on Friday night in Aledo.

Desoto has had two fumbles here in the 1st Quarter deep in their own territory.

Just as I say that, Martin runs a reverse pass and it's picked off in the EZ by Desoto.

Martin 12 (2 pt conversion failed)

Martin scores again.

Wallace is a wonderful athlete, but if you want me to evaluate him as a QB, I've done so by ranking him fairly low. We saw him at Elite 11 struggle to put passes on target with no pass rush and no pads. I just don't see him ever playing QB. His throwing ability at that camp made Tyrone Swoopes look like Andrew luck

Final-UPSET

#7 Desoto 26

Another game on ESPN2 at 8.

DeLasalle v Euless Trinity.

Another upset!

Nation's #1 team, Concord (California) DeLaSalle goes down to unranked Euless Trinity, 26-20.

Trinity had a good game plan, and De La Salle self destructed.  Entertaining game.  Enjoyed watching some HS football tonight.
