Herman's thoughts on Jerrod Heard's role

So he's not moving to QB, but can be used situationally if needed. (for those who wanted a definite answer)

So it's Buchelle or Ehlinger (or Merrick). Haven't heard a word on Merrick since he arrived on campus.

Although I wish Ehlinger could redshirt, I just don't think its possible. Nowadays, you really need two solid QBs to get you through a season.

What bothers me is that both are injury prone, it seems. I'm hoping Buchelle can add some good weight this off season. I've heard Ehlinger is up to 220 now.

I read that Buchelle is up to 205 (listed) so hopefully that's true.  I like what they're doing in theory with Heard.  Perhaps we can still RS Sam and Heard be the backup?  Plus it's "only" March.  By fall Buchelle could possibly 210-215...

It's not possible.

We're lucky Sam enrolled early. He'll probably start if Herman wants a true dual-threat QB. I haven't seen anything from Merrick to make me believe he's Big 12 ready.

Is it that we have heard nothing on Merrick to give us hope for him...or have you actually seen him practice? Not being difficult, just curious if anyone has actually seen him practice in person.

After watching Hermans presser it's clear Heard is not an option he wants to use. He won't even work Heard at QB until fall practice if he feels like the two third string guys can't cut it.

Merrick was always going to be a project. A current college told me that if Merrick ever saw the field for Texas something went horribly wrong. His words not mine.

Sam is going to play this fall in some capacity. Don't see him redshirting at this point. Heard is going to log majority of his snaps at WR. He might be an emergency option at QB.

I haven't seen anything from Merrick - that's the problem.

How many reps did he get in the Spring Game last year? Not many and they weren't memorable.
