– Kyle Allen: I spoke with a source close to the new staff and was told that they are expecting current Houston QB and former Texas A&M transfer, Kyle Allen to transfer to Texas as a graduate and be fully eligible to play next season.
Obviously until this happens, it’s not a done deal. Allen can certainly change his mind but the impression I’ve been given is the new staff believes it will happen. We will also be watching to see if the staff goes after former Baylor QB, Jarrett Stidham.
The source I spoke with is very familiar with both Buechele and Allen and believes that if Allen does indeed transfer, Buechele will be in for a very difficult fight to hold on to his job. Neither Buechele or Allen are very mobile making them both pocket passers but Allen stands about three inches taller than Buechele. And, while very can claim the kind of long ball touch Buechele has, Allen has the stronger arm.
Whether Allen does or doesn’t transfer to Texas, I think it’s safe to say that Herman will make bringing in an older QB via transfer or JUCO will be a priority. This, in my estimation, is the best sign Texas fans can hope for. Charlie Strong would still be the head coach at Texas had he brought in a good transfer QB for this past season. Herman won’t make that mistake. In fact I’m told Herman works directly with the quarterbacks. – (Super K)
