Hermann needs to go

when I read that a player opts out with two games to go it shows me that TH has lost the locker room..You opt out BEFORE the season and I have no problem because of health concerns, but once we start the fight together, we finish the fight together, win or lose, too may guys care about the name on the back of the jersey and not enough about the name on the front of the jersey

Could you imagine an Army of soldiers going into battle and men opting out after being deployed...that is desertion in my book...if we were playing for a Championship with two games to go would players be opting out ? Im afraid he won't be the last

I’d go ahead and do it now if I was CDC. We get some that might save us a couple of recruits.

This list is me just thinking out loud. It is all inclusive and some of these have just crossed my mind with what they’re showing. Some of these I haven’t researched alot, so keep that in mind before you flame me.

Urban- go all in and the only way I would lose him is if he doesn’t want to coach anymore or coach here.

Matt Ruhle- just a phone call to make sure he doesn’t want to come back to the college game

The rest are up and comers and not in order of preference.

Fickell

Tom Allen Indiana

Matt Campbell

Billy Napier- ULL good resume and kicking ass right now. Worked under Saban

Maybe some more but these come to mind

Not leaving where they are:

Mullen

Dabo

Brian Kelly

Kirby

Furk, I got Fickell confused with Ryan Day. My bad, @NEOkHorn.

He and WTH have the same credentials. Success as coordinators at tOSU and as G5 head coaches.
No problem. Fickell did serve as interim at tOSU and even led them to a 6-6 record after the Tressel mess. Who knows, maybe he learned enough and has grown into a viable candidate. I just don't see CDC making a move at this point unless he has a slam dunk replacement lined up or at least within his grasp. Who knows though, maybe CDC believes Fickell is ready to do what Day has done.

Would you like some senseless penalties with that whine? We are overstocked.

He has nothing to do to "get ready for the NFL." Unless you're trying to say he's not in shape and should train like it's football season. lol

He's doing this to avoid injury.

I tend to prefer knowing when I have a player who is focused on himself and not the team. The team was given a schedule to play. They should finish the schedule or just come out and call him a part-time player, part-time team mate.

Skipping a bowl game is one thing, but quitting while the season is still going is quite another. Doesn't matter what the W-L is.

What's he going to do in the NFL? Quit playing as soon as his team is disqualified from the playoffs? I mean, if he keeps playing in pointless games, he could get injured. Right?
Gotta disagree here.  Not saying I like that Cosmi is opting out, but he's definitely preserving his earnings capability based on his draft status.  Preparing for the combine is a real thing and I'm sure he'll be working out/training to impress there and ideally remain a 1st round pick.

TH sh!t the bed this season as this was supposed to be the year.  New staff etc. etc., nevermind that he was the one who hired the first and rather incompetent staff.  Cosmi leaving only further indicts Herman for what he has failed to do as the HC here and I get it.

Again, not saying I like it, but I get where Cosmi is coming from on this one.  Clearly he won't be quitting during an NFL season as he'll be getting paid millions.  That's the whole point here, he's got a shot at a life changing financial windfall and preserving his health and preparing for this next step is everything for his future and career.

Just get ready as he won't be the only one opting out from this team.

Says a lot when a player like Cosmi opts to not finish the regular season.  My instincts tell me he is tired of the atmosphere and leaderless culture with what leadership there is coming from selfish loudmouths and borderline malcontents
Meh...don't read too much into this decision. Cosmi is just trying to avoid injury and max out his NFL payday.

Bowl game?  maybe.  Injury? certainly.  Being healthy and opting out of regular scheduled games to prepare for the draft?  no, not unless he is quitting on the program, esp a captain of the team.

I agree he's quit on the team.

It's just your opinion that Sam quit bc he thinks UT has a "leaderless culture" and his teammates are "loudmouths and malcontents". That's pure conjecture on your part.

I've heard this now used against Herman, Strong, and Mack. I've decided it doesn't mean anything... other than a common complain thrown at a school like Texas which has all the resources: "country club atmosphere", "5 star talent vs 5 star effort", etc. Good gosh how much did we blast McFatten and the other S&C coaches because we thought they were all out of shape.

It's obvious now that those teams weren't soft, they were poorly coached.

Even on those teams there were players who gave max effort. We know the players didn't want Strong fired and played their hearts out against Kansas. We saw after the game how upset they were.

This team isn't soft either. I didn't see any quit yesterday, but a coach who continually put his players in a position to lose than to win.
I agree with Rod Barbers on the Horn in regards to effort, he has been saying that Texas has lost its edge as a program; you see players “take plays off” on the field; it’s not just physical toughness that is lacking at times but mental focus as well.

I completely disagree that this program is not “soft”; this program has never lived up to its potential; even when Mack was coaching. Yes Texas won a NC; but only won the Big 12 twice under Mack; one more than Texas A&M

No one likes Heman

Normally, Cyclones everywhere would support Herman’s career path elsewhere, even claiming him as one of their own. But a few years ago, speaking to an audience of Houston business students, Herman quipped, “Did a three-year sentence in Ames, Iowa. Anybody been to Ames, Iowa? Yeah, it’s awful. Siberia

Well, thanks to Campbell, “Siberia” is now ostensibly the epicenter of Big 12 football.
